This chapter introduces all basic concepts of Columba. It will help you setup an email account, checking for new mail, composing and sending a message.
Here is a list of things that you should look up before you start Columba for the first time:
Your POP3 or IMAP server for incoming email, which usually is named similar to "pop3.yahoo.com"
Your SMTP server for outgoing email, which usually is named similar to "smtp.yahoo.com"
Your username and password for your POP3- or IMAP-account
You should contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or your system administrator if you do not know these settings.
To start Columba do one of the following:
Select Programs->Columba from your menu panel
Type columba at the command line
The first time you run the program it will create a directory
.columba
in your
home directory. Windows users can find this directory in C:\Documents and
Settings\USER\.columba
. Just replace USER with
your username.
It will then open up a first-time wizard which will guide you in creating a mail account.
