Tebay Lakes, Alaska,
1975
Photograph by Bruce Dale
The broken shell of a recently-hatched ptarmigan egg rests on the ground near Tebay Lakes, Alaska. The ptarmigan is a bird in the grouse family and chicks have feathers with intricate yellow, brown, grey, and chestnut patterns during the first weeks of life.
