"Tall grass is the favorite habitat of the greater one-horned Indian rhinoceros, Rhinoceros unicornis, found only in the [Indian] subcontinent. It grows to a weight of more than two tons on a diet of little but grass. Of the 1,900 or so left on earth, Chitwan harbors about 450."

(Text adapted from and photograph shot on assignment for, but not published in, "Tiger Country," May/June 1997, National Geographic Traveler magazine)
