When 1991
Photographer Bruce Dale

Sliding along at the edge of the shadows, this rattlesnake has made a home in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. The park's 337,570 acres (136,614.6 hectares) provide ample habitat for mountain lions, foxes, bats, jackrabbits, and many other species.

(Photograph shot on assignment for, but not published in, "John Wesley Powell: Visions for the West," April 1994, National Geographic magazine)
