When 1978
Photographer David Alan Harvey

Barely visible, a wooden fence peaks out from underneath a blanket of snow in Grand Teton National Park. Averaging 191 inches (485 centimeters) of snow per year, much of the park is covered in snow from November to April.

(Photograph shot on assignment for, but not published in, "Our National Parks," July 1979, National Geographic magazine)
