Every character has a 3-hit combo he/she/it can perform. To do so, you have to time your button presses so that you press the attack button right after the previous attack finishes. You can link normal attacks, but once you do a heavy attack the combo ends. Generally, the best combo to use is two attacks followed by a heavy attack. If you are using a magic-based character with weak attacks, you probably don't want to run around attacking monsters up in their face. You should stay back and hit with your techniques. Stock up on HP and TP restoring items and make as many trips back to the item stores as you need to finish a quest. Fighters should also use magic on occasion, such as healing magic or magic to increase their attack or defense power. Androids cannot use techniques so they have to rely solely on items for curing. You can tell whether or not you'll be able to hit an opponent because a target marker will appear on the opponent. If it is a red target, you should attack. If it is blue, you can hit the opponent with your B button technique. That of course is assuming you don't alter the default way of setting up your attacks. -----MAGs--------------------------------------- Your MAG is your buddy. He floats around behind you when you are questing. You have to take care of your MAG by feeding it. Each MAG has a certain item that it likes to eat. Experiment with items and see which boost attributes the most. Each feeding session lets you give it 3 different items. You can feed it roughly every 10 minutes or so while questing, not just idling. -----Opening Doors------------------------------ There are a few ways to open paths and doors during questing... 1. Defeat all enemies. In some rooms, you will have to kill all of the enemies that pop up in order to proceed. 2. Hit the switch. If there is a pillar with a symbol on it that matches a nearby door, hit the pillar to unlock the door. 3. Consoles. Consoles look kinda like computer consoles and they are used to turn off the barriers in front of boxes of items. -----Playing Online----------------------------- Until the game comes out in the US, there is little I can do to help you here. I really hope I'll be able to use my current character when it comes out in the US... ************************************************ Creating a Character ************************************************ First you choose the class of your character. -HUmar = Human + Human Good in close-range combat. Can do some recovery and attack techniques. Balanced growth potential. -HUnewearl = Human + Newman Strong technique attack with good balance between technique usage and close-range combat. -HUcast = Hunter + Android Strongest attack power, highest HP level. Uses multiple weapons but no techniques. -RAmar = Ranger + Human Proficient with guns. Can do some recovery and attack techniques. Balanced growth potential. -RAcast = Ranger + Android Can use all guns but no techniques. Attacking power is higher than RAcaseal. -RAcaseal = Ranger + Android Can use all guns but no techniques. Evasive power is higher than RAcast. -FOmarl = Force + Human Proficient with techniques and has the most balanced growth potential of all the Forces. -FOnewm = Force + Newman Highest TP level. Can use all techniques. Potential to become a leader in battle. -FOnewearl = Force + Newman TP/technique usage equal to Fomarl. Defense is higher but HP is lower. Weaker in close-range combat. You must do a certain number of quests before the next set of quests appear. You can play the quests in any order you choose. I personally suggest that you do "Battle Training" first though. -----Magnitude of Metal------------------------- "A valuable commodity on Ragol was lost?!" Client: Garon, trader Quest: Retrieve items that were stolen on a trip back from Ragol. Reward: 500 Meseta Wander around through the forest until you find an android named Elenor Camuel. She will give you info on how the MAG system works as you play through the rest of the stage. After finding her, wander further until you find the MAG to finish the quest. -----Claiming a Stake--------------------------- "Find and bring back a greedy landlord!" Client: Racton's son Quest: My father, Racton, has gone to claim land on Ragol. Find him. Reward: 700 Meseta You'll find Ragol in the big area in the center of the map. He'll then want you to find three pods of his before he'll leave with you. The screen you are on has three exits, and each one leads to one of the three pods. The top right exit leads to a pod and a dead end, the top left exit has a pod in the very next room, and the last one is at the beginning, which is easily accessible from the bottom exit to the room. -----Battle Training---------------------------- "Find a hunter who is working down on Ragol." Client: Zidd Quest: Please find and bring back a hunter here. He went down to Ragol for a quest. Reward: 500 Meseta After your briefing, go and talk to the android by the guild entrance. His name is Kireek. He's on level 36 compared to your pansy little level and thus will make for an excellent first guide. After talking to him, talk to the other guy again. Then go to the door to the right of the Guild (between the two guards) to go to Forest 1. As you play through this section, Kireek will give you many helpful pointers on how to play the game in general. If you are having problems with the monsters, let Kireek kill them but try to get in a hit before he does so you get a share of the experience. Deep in the forest you will find the hunter and a data disc. Pick up the data disc then talk to the hunter then Kireek to end the quest. [You must finish the above quests before the following ones appear...] -----Journalistic Pursuit------------------------ "A journalist went to go down to Ragol." Client: Nol, Journalist Quest: It's my duty to report what's on Ragol. Take me with you. Reward: 1200 Meseta In this quest, you lead Nol Rinale to search for the truth behind the problems of Pioneer 1. She puts on a covert top secret disguise and follows you around. Head to Forest 2 and then you need to find the room with the weather device. Nol will stop and talk about it when you get there. Then you need to flip a switch in the next room and you will be able to reach the computer terminal. Nol will find rather unpleasent results and decide that she no longer wishes to pursue her "truth" any longer for fear of creating public outcry. -----The Fake in Yellow------------------------- "What is the biologist on Ragol doing?" Client: Guls's Assistant Quest: Dr. Guls, a biologist who's crazy about Rogal's native life is missing. Find him. Reward: 800 Meseta During this quest, you will only fight Rag Rappys. However, as you progress through you will notice that one Rag Rappy in particular will stop and look at you. You will finally trap it in the big open area. Talk to it a few times to discover that it is Dr. Guls. He promises to leave and you are done with this rather easy quest. -----Native Research---------------------------- "Collect data on the native animals." Client: Alicia Quest: To help our study, collect data on native animals on Ragol. Reward: 2500 Meseta For this quest, you must defeat a group of each of the 5 basic types of enemies in Forest 1 and Forest 2. You are only allowed 20 minutes to do so. I recommend that you immediately head to Forest 2 and search out the Hildebear. Along the way you should collect data for a few other types of creatures. After you beat the Hildebear, head back to Forest 1 as you need to kill the Mothmant to get its data. You can find a swarm of them in the little grotto at the bottom where you usually start a stage. I highly recommend that you ignore all boxes along the way. Once you get the data from all 5 creatures, the timer stops and you can get the items at your leisure. -----Forest of Sorrow--------------------------- [Appears after completing Native Research] "The data from the capsules is unusual..." Client: Alicia Quest: I don't believe the results taken from the data capsules. I want to go see myself! Reward: 1500 Meseta Alicia Baz is dumbfounded by the data you collected. She wants to see the environment of the animals to see what happened to them. She wants to be taken to the Dome. Warp to Forest 2 and then go through the steps to get her to the weather detection device. You learn that Hildebears used to be quite friendly but obviously they aren't now. Go back to the other screen and look in the little grotto to find a baby Hildebear. After talking to it, you'll be able to go through the door to the next area. Head to the bottom right area to fight a huge group of Hildebears. Be sure to note the healing thingie on the first screen of Forest 2 so you can recover during the fight. After killing them you'll find the baby again and the quest will finally end. -----Gran Squall-------------------------------- "Gran Squall, a pleasure boat, departed before the explosion. Find the survivors." Client: Travel Agency Quest: The pleasure boat. Gran Squall, is lost. Find the survivors. Reward: 1000 Meseta At the beginning, you are told that you should not converse with any other hunters who are working on the case. But of course we are rebels so we'll just ignore that. Head to the bottom area and talk to the guy with the enormous gun. His name is Bernie and he'll help you out. Head to the left and Bernie will help you through a door you normally could not have gotten through. Along the way Bernie will explain that the Gran Squall is really a military ship. The sole survivor holds key data that Bernie is interested in. Warp to Forest 2. In Forest 2 you will have to fight through a large number of enemies in order to find a warp to the Pioneer 1 area. The teleporter is in the bottom right area of the map. Inside, kill the Monests and you'll find the survivor there and the quest is complete. -----First Boss--------------------------------- After completing all of the above quests, you will no longer be able to select any quests. This is your cue that you are ready to fight the first boss. Just go to the Forest 1 and make your way all the way to Pioneer 1. Along the way you will find notes left by Red Ring Rico. At Pioneer 1 you will find an enormous warp that takes you to the dragon boss. To defeat this dragon, you must attack its feet to knock it down and then hit the area where its neck connects to its body. It will try to step on you and also breath fire at you. After the first time you knock it down, it will begin to fly in the air to attack, where it will try to squash you or breath down flames at you. It will then burrow into the ground ala Bugs Bunny and try to hit you from below. Keep moving to dodge him and then repeat the same method of attack. It will continue to fly whenever it feels like it after the first time. This isn't too tough of a boss, really. After defeating the dragon, go back and talk to the members of the Principal's entourage and you will be allowed to choose new quests. -----To be continued---------------------------- ************************************************ Items ************************************************ Antidote: Neutralizes poison in the body. Antiparalysis: Removes paralysis from the body. Monofluid: TP recovery fluid. Restores 70 TP. Monomate: Health recovery fluid. Restores 70 HP. Moon Atomizer: Revives a fallen teammate.
