Granted, in the grand scheme of things this ranks right up there with 'picking the cheese out of your big toe' but if I've tweaked your curiosity then please read on… With the following walkthrough, you should easily be able to finish the game within 8:00 hours during your first play. Once you've become familiar with the strategies and nuances of the walkthrough, beating the game within 6:00 hours on first play should be within your grasp. But first things first: -------------------------- 02 REQUIREMENTS/STRATEGIES -------------------------- A) "IF YOU CAN PICK YOUR NOSE…" I'm fairly certain the clock doesn't stop for the cut-scenes. Therefore, the ability to tap the start button comes in pretty handy. B) "YOU'RE ALLERGIC TO WORKSHOPS" You should make no more than 3-4 trips to the workshops. The implications of this should be clear. C) "YOU'VE DEVELOPED AN UNUSUAL CLOSENESS TO FANDANGO" You'll be using nothing but Fandango's bronze scimitar blade throughout the entire game. You'll be upgrading the grip on fandango three times (cross guard, knuckle guard, power grip). D) "I CAN'T COUNT TO ELEVEN! DO I LOOK LIKE A FRIGGIN' ENGINEER?" You'll only need 10 spells the entire game: heal, herakles, degenerate, prostasia, tarnish, fixate, unlock, luft fusion, soil fusion, frost fusion. You might be able to get away with using 9 or 8, but I've been too lazy to try. :p E) "KEEP IT SIMPLE" I think the chain of choice should be heavy shot/raging ache. For defense, reflect magic, reflect damage, and ward is all I ever use. F) "TAKE A SEAT ROOKIE" I make some assumptions throughout the walkthrough (ie. If your about to fight a boss with beast affinity, then you'll probably equip the swan song accessory). If this is your first time playing Vagrant Story, I highly recommend Zy Nicholson's walkthrough to enjoy the full gaming experience. G) "IT'S NOT REALLY CHEATING, IS IT?" You are given three Elixir of Kings and one Valens throughout the game. I highly recommend the 'save' trick to fully maximize these strength bonuses. H) "RUSSIAN ROULETTE" After every boss fight, you're given a random bonus. You have limited control as to what you can receive and this, unfortunately, is going to have some bearing on your final time. I once went through an entire game receiving a total of 16 points in str. bonuses! Needless to say, I got my fastest time ever. I) "SAVE THE DOLPHINS! SAVE THE SEALS!" Don't be afraid to save as you lose only a couple seconds. K) "WHAT HAPPENED TO 'J'?" In case you were wondering, I regularly finish the game inside of 5:30 on first play. The stats for my fastest game ever are: TIME - 4:54.87 MAP COMPLETION – 59% CHEST COUNT – 32% KILLS – 459 # OF TIME SAVES – 17 LV.5 DESTROYER I know this time can be improved upon. I've yet to do it, but I'm sure there's someone out there who will be able to go sub 4:30 and some nut that will eventually break the 4:00 barrier. -------------- 03 WALKTHROUGH -------------- I won't be giving detailed descriptions for boss fights; every fight should be fought with fandango or some variation of the fandango's blade and a different grip. Be sure to check all weapons and shields you receive; you never know what kind of gem you may get. Also, try not to heal too often; I can't stress this point enough. Outside of a few exceptions (ie. when facing enemies with magic spells that target multiple areas) try and keep your HP to ˝ your current max. Find it, avoid it, or just eat it. -The Dreamer's Climb Just stack the two blue cubes. Attach Dragonite on your shield (if you have two slots, add the Undine Jasper). Cast Herakles and Luft Fusion before you enter. -Hall of the Wage Paying BOSS: Snow Dragon SPOILS: Panacea, Elixir of Queens -Tunnel of the Heartless If you have a Faerie Wing, just take it and jump from the gap. Otherwise, slide the lower frictionless cube north. Push the frictionless cube above it south. Push the western most rolling cube east. Push the other rolling cube two paces south. You should now be able to get the push crate to the gap. TEMPLE OF KILTIA -The Dark Coast SAVE POINT If you need the heal panel on the other side, use Argon's Eye to avoid the trap panel. -Hall of Prayer BOSS: Last Crusader, evil SPOILS: Agria's Balm, Alchemist's Reagent x3 After defeating it, head east. -Those Who Drink The Dark Go to the stack of two crates and push the top crate west. See those two wedged crates up against the wall? Destroy the northern most crate. Stand in place of the destroyed crate and move the remaining crate 5 paces to the south. Go back and destroy the first crate you used to fill the gap (the one you pushed to the west). Move the lone floor crate east. Now move the crate right above you one pace east and eight paces north (you have to move the floor crate one pace west to do this). Push the floor crate back one pace east and head back to the crate you moved 5 paces to the south and move it two paces to the east and nine paces north. Now, push the crate on the upper tier one pace north. Then push it one pace east onto the crate on the floor. Push it north one pace, then west one pace. Push it all the way north until you hit the wall. -The Chapel of Meschaunce BOSS: Minotaur, beast SPOILS: NONE Chest: Silver Key, Ghost Hound, Cure Potion x2, Mana Potion x2 Don't bother trying to cast degenerate on the Minotaur. After you deal with it, head back to the Hall of Prayer (you'll meet a water elemental and a nightstalker) and head west. -The Resentful Ones Part One: move the northern most rolling cube two paces north, then one pace to the west. Push the other rolling cube one pace north, one pace east, one pace south. Now simply push the frictionless cube east, north, then east again. Push the crate onto the frictionless cube to make the jump. Part Two: push the rolling cube one pace north and three paces to the west. Push the southern most frictionless cube west so that it stops against the rolling cube. Proceed and push the rolling cube two paces north and push the other frictionless cube west. Fill the gap by pushing the northern frictionless cube south. Move the crate onto the northern most frictionless cube to make the jump. -Those Who Fear the Light Gremlin Attach Haeralis to your shield. Cast Herakles and Luft Fusion. -Chamber of Reason Boss: Kali, human -Exit to City Centre Get on that cloudstone. TOWN CENTRE EAST -Plateia Lumitar SAVE POINT Make one final return to the workshop for repairs and upgrades. You should have the power grip (acquired after the Ogre Lord battle). When ready, return here and head west. THE GREAT CATHEDRAL -Into Holy War, L1 Head down the steps. -Struggle for the Soul, B1 There's a Heal panel here. Head towards the exit on the other side of the waterway. THE ATRIUM SAVE POINT Make final preparations for the final boss fight. Make sure your hp is at least 315. If not, take some Elixir of Queens. When your ready, go through the usual powering up routine and go up the steps. Boss: Guildernstern I, evil This battle is rather straight forward. Don't bother trying to Degenerate him. Pummel him into the ground until… Boss: Guildenstern II, evil Stay in the middle of the circle. From here, he can only hit you with Apocalypse. Use reflect magic to do anywhere from 80-100 hp damage. When he goes to Bloody Sin, use reflect DAMAGE to do anywhere from 60-85+ hp damage. Remember to heal accordingly. CONGRATULATIONS! You've finished the game is less than 8:00!
