Installation

1. Install Alphamania.prc
2. If you have a display capable of 4-bit grey, you may want to also install Alphamania-Twilight-4.prc
3. If you have a colour display, you may want to also install Alphamania-Twilight.prc and Alphamania-Earth.prc
On some versions of Palm Desktop we've noticed that double-clicking on the scheme files complains that Alphamania.prc is already installed - use the Add button instead if this is a problem.

Object

The object of the game is to arrange the 16 letter tiles into the central grid so that each row makes a word, and each column also makes a word. Trickier than it sounds! The unregistered version contains 10 free puzzles, registered users get over 100,000!

Features

The game will run on any Palm with PalmOS 2.0 or later. It supports all types of display from black & white to colour. Graphical schemes can be installed as an optional extra, or left off if travelling light.

Detailed statistics are kept, including the all important fastest puzzle times, average puzzle times, total puzzles solved and a history of your recent puzzles

Registered Features

Registered users get a virtually unlimited supply of puzzles, and the ability to share puzzles with other registered users via IR or Puzzle Codes - perfect for challenging a friend to a race!

How to play

Tap or drag the pen to move letters around the screen. Dragging around the board is a fast way to try all combinations for the tile you started the drag from.

Indicators will appear when a row or column contains a word in the dictionary. When all indicators are on at the same time, you have solved the puzzle!

You can ask for hints from the Hint menu. Beginners should start by hinting all the corners.

'Hint for position' lets you choose a position in the puzzle you want to get the letter for.

'Hint for letter' lets you choose a letter you want to place in the puzzle. This can be handy for pinning down rare letters like 'X' and 'Z'.

'Hint all corners' places the correct letters in each corner.

'Random hint' gives a random hint.

Once a tile becomes hinted, you can't move it. The game will let you have as many hints as you like, but using 16 hints is not much of a challenge!

The dictionary includes plurals and regional spellings, but does not include obscene words or words that require capitalization, hyphenation or apostrophes.
