Hot Checkers Manual

Play checkers against the computer or human opponent. Hot Checkers features strong AI and includes four versions of this classic board game: American Checkers, Pool, Russian Shashki, and Giveaway. Special high-resolution versions for Tungsten T, Sony Clie, and HandEra 330 devices available. Palm OS 5 compatible

Requirements

Hot Checkers works on any Palm OS 3.1 (or above) compatible device including high-res devices such as Sony Clie or HandEra 330

How To Install

If you'd ever installed a Palm OS application you should experience no problems getting started this game. But to complete the manual we had to write about it:

Create a temporary folder on your hard disk drive (e.g., "C:\My Documents\Hot Checkers")
Unzip game ZIP archive to that temporary folder. You can use any unzip utility such as WinZip ( http://www.winzip.com/ ).
Start Palm Desktop application and click "Install" button
"Install Tool" window will appear. Click "Add" button, then browse to the temporary folder containing unzipped game. There you'll find a number of Palm Application files designed for different Palm OS devices. Please choose the appropriate version to install (refer to Compatibility Table for detailed info)
Also you need to install game addons if any. They are Palm Database files containing missions, levels or other data. If you do not see such files, they are not needed.
HotSync your handheld to complete the installation.

Important Notes:

Games designed for different device types are usually (but not always) placed in different folders inside the game ZIP archive. This table will help you to determine which version is the best for your Palm OS handheld. Please install the Appropriate version if available.
Some folders may be omitted in the distribution, this means you have to install files listed in the Compatible column
If you can't find your device in the list, try to install files from "Common version (160x160)" folder, choosing either Grayscale or Color versions, and please drop us a message including your device name and vendor

Game Rules

The game is being played on a 8x8 square board.
Initially the pieces are located on both (upper and lower) edges of the board, in 3 rows.
An ordinary piece may be moved one square diagonally normally, and three squares while capturing an opponent piece.
An ordinary piece may become a queen piece, if it reaches the other edge of the board during the game.
A queen piece may move any number of squares diagonally.
You may capture any quantity of opponenet pieces in any diagonal direction.
The main aim of the game is to capture all opponent pieces, or block them.

There are different modifications of Checkers:

American Checkers

Pawn cannot eat backwards
Queen can move only one square per turn

Russian Checkers

Pawn can eat backwards
Queen can move any number of squares per turn

Russian Give-away

Rules the same as Russian Checkers
The goal of the game is to give away all checkers or to become locked by opponent
