I don't consider this as a guide actually (some other people wrote incredible
comprehensive guides already). I just found some secret things in the game
and I noted they couldn't be found elsewhere, so I put this little guide
together.

I you have any additions, mail them to ravager@pandora.be

I Updates

  *** version 1.3 (25-06-2000)

   - For all the people who had trouble finding the ring of wizardry, here
     comes Duncan Clay. It seems I made a little typing error, so the y
     coordinates for the ring of wizardry should be 3760 and not 3670.
     Everyone should be able to find it now, thanks Duncan.

   - The ring of fire resistance can be found one map east of the Nashkell
     mines, not Nashkell, thanks Duncan.

   - The Scroll of Cloudkill and chromatic orb can be found 1 map west of
     the Nashkell Mines = 1 map south of Nashkell, not 1 map east of the
     Nashkell Mines. Thanks, Duncan.

   - I added a revision history section so not all the information on the
     previous updates is in the beginning of the guide.

II Secret item locations

  Press the L key while playing to see the coordinates of your mouse. Then
  move your mouse to get the exact location of the items.

   Ring of Wizardry

   * Map: Friendly Arm Inn
   * Coordinates: x = 2552, y = 3760
   * Effect: Doubles the amount of spells a mage can memorize

     BEWARE: After installing the final patch for Baldur's Gate, this ring
     will be removed from the map, this can also be read in the readme file
     included with the patch. Still, Jesse Lacroix sent me he still found
     the ring (he has TOSC installed and has aplied the latest patch). He
     says the new coordinates of the ring are: x=2552, y=3758

     At the central bottom of the map, head right. You will come across a
     conifer tree (looks like a Christmas tree) with two rocks under it. The
     ring is just behind the rocks. It takes a little searching to see the
     change in the cursor. This is the method for the ring without having
     applied any patch. If you applied the patch, the ring will be a little
     higher, but on the same length of the left side of the map.

     Variation 1: Acrollis didn't find the ring there, but he found it in the
     great city of Baldur's Gate! it's on the same map as the Flaming fist
     headquarters in a house in the S/W corner. There are only like 2 or 3
     houses in that corner so it shouldn't be hard to find the right one. He
     didn't have TOTSC installed but he did have the latest patch installed.
     You have to kill a mage to get it but it shouldn't be too hard.

     If you are in multiplayer made, do the following: Once you have it,
     export the character with it. Then pass the ring to another character,
     and go to Character Arbitration. Delete the character who you have just
     exported and then import him back again. You will have 2 Rings of
     Wizardry. Do accordingly until all your mages have 2 Rings. Boosts your
     mage spell capability. The Rings sell for 9,000 gold each, so it's an
     easy way to get hard cash.

   Ankheg Armor

   * Map: Nashkell
   * Coordinates: x 186, y = 2744, AR4800
   * Effect: Armor Class 1 and very light with a weight of 25.

   Father's helmet

   * Map: Candlekeep area, start of the game.
   * Coordinates: unknown
   * Effect: unknown
   * How to get it: You can get your father's helm if you don't kill anybody
                    and go into the gate the wizards created to protect you
                    early in the game. Go to the priest there after going
                    through the portal and he'll give you the helm, he'll
                    try to curse you. You'll have 2 choices: stab or fight
                    fight him and you get the helmet.

   Frost Wand

   * Map: Nashkell Mines
   * Coordinates: x = 165, y = 177
   * Effect: creates a column of Ice
   * Damage: 8D6 (save vs wands for half)
   * Range: 100
   * Area: 1 Creature

   Ring of Protection +1

   * Map: 1 map south of the Friendly Arm Inn
   * Coordinates: x = 1004, y = 1114
   * Effect: Armor Class + 1 Bonus and Saving Throws +1 Bonus

   Ring of Fire Resistance

   * Map: 1 map east of the Nashkell Mines
   * Coordinates: x = 1955, y = 2372
   * Effect: Fire Resistance +40% (+ a star saphire (1000 gold) and anothe
             gem)

   Scroll of Cloudkill and chromatic orb

   * Map: 1 map west of the Nashkell Mines = 1 map south of Nashkell
   * Coordinates: x = 1793, y = 414
   * Effect: 2 nice spells (level 1 and level 5)

   Gauntlets of Weapon Mastery

   * Map: Umbreelee Temple in Bladur's Gate

   Cloak of Protection +2

   * Map: Candlekeep Crypt, Southwest of the empty room

   Ion Stone of Luck

   * Map: 1 map west of Nashkell
   * How to get it: kill the squirrel on one map to the west of Nashkell.
                    Kill every squirrel you meet, one of them will be
                    carrying it.

   * Effect: +1 Luck

   Algeron's Cloak (might be at random)

   * Map: Beregost, Feldepost Inn, first floor.
   * How to get it: When I robbed the fatso on the second floor, I got
                    Algeron's Cloak.

   * Effect: It will give you +2 Charisma if you wear it, but it also give
             you a special ability. You can charm anyone any time then by
             clicking on the special abilities button and then on the cloak.
             Especially early on in the game, when you don't have the charm
             spell yet, you will be able to make good use of it. You can use
             the charm spell on enemies (some have resistance) and they'll
             fight on your side then for a while.

             Especially when fighting those annoying sirenes at the
             lighthouse area, the charm spell is very useful, simply cast it
             on on of the carrion crawlers nearby the coast and you can let
             him attack the sirene. She won't cast invisibility nor try to
             charm any of your party members if you keep your distance.

             Even if you have the charm spell already, this cloak will help
             you out too.

             Beware: When you use charm on someone, you're sometimes not able
             to talk to a neutral person in a game. I haven't found a way
             yet to avoid this, so talk first, charm later.

             In town, when you enter a house where there are NPC's that have
             no quests or useful information for you, cast the charm and then
             rob their entire house, they won't call the guards then.

_________
III Tomes

  A Tome will raise one of your basic points like wisdom, intelligence,
  constitution, ...

  To use it, place it in your quick item slot and then (in-game), use the
  tome to get the benefit. The tome will be consumed.

   Tome of Dexterity

   It's behind a barrel behind the Black Lily in the THief's Guide in
   Baldur's Gate.

   Tome of Constitution

   It's on the lighthouse screen, in a cave behind the last sirenes (on a
   strange coloured kind of sand, very yellow)

   Tome of Wisdom

   It's lying on a priest in Tymora's Temple in Baldur's Gate. It also can be
   found in a tomb in Candlekeep

   Tome of Charisma

   It's in one of the tree caves in the Gnoll Fortress

   Tome of Strength

   It's in a tomb in Candlekeep

   Tome of Intelligence

   It's on a bookcase on the upper level of the Wizard's Tower in Baldur's
   Gate.

VII Revision history

  *** Version 1.2 (16-06-2000)

   - Nick submitted another item I consider as a secret, it's a hidden helmet
     from your father you can get early in the game. You can read about it
     in the secret items section.

   - There seem to be a lot of problem with the Ring or Wizardry (the
     location seems to vary according to what patch you applied, wether you
     have TOSC installed or not ...). Acrollis gave me so new information
     where he found the ring, I'm sure one of the locations has to work for
     you know. It would be great if someone could provide me with a definete
     explanation of the location for all patches and the add-on :)

  *** Version 1.12 (27-05-2000)

   - Small mistake corrected, thx Larry Brandenburger

  *** Version 1.11 (30-03-2000)

   - Jesse Lacroix sent a small update on the hidden Ring of Wizardry.

   - My contact information and other things have changed the lay-out for
     example), I also added a new section about contributions.

  *** Version 1.1

   - Some updates, there was some misprinted information on the location of
     'the ring of fire resistance' and Can Selimoglu corrected them. I also
     revised the lay-out.

  *** Version 1.0

   - The first version of the guide
