My first FAQ!! At this time, I've only have
information on the 3DFX Voodoo Banshee and Voodoo3
PCI cards. With future contributions from you, more
cards will be added to this FAQ. Let me know if
this works for you and list your video card
so future revision can be added and/or consolidated
into this FAQ.

About This FAQ
--------------------------------

This is for people having great trouble trying to play older DOS/Win9x
games on their PC due to some games being "hard-coded" with old and
outdated (by today's standards) versions of a VESA Video Graphics
application called "UniVBE" (now called "Scitech's Display Doctor"),
which will autodetect your video card's manufacturer, available video RAM,
resolution quotas, as well as add VESA 2.0 support to your video card if
it needs it (or even implementing better VESA 2.0 support if the maker
of your video card has buggy VESA support out of the box).

Since video cards have come a long way over the past 5 years, "UniVBE" often times does not
detect them correctly or even not at all! The result is that you will not be able to go
down memory lane since most programs that use "UniVBE" won't let you play if it doesn't
detect your video card properly. The only way around this is to try the "Manual Overrides"
section of "UniVBE" and with some trial and error, finding the closet or best settings in
each of the drop-down boxes for your video card.

Since Mortal Kombat Trilogy PC is still a fairly popular game, this FAQ at this time
only covers this. Of course, with your contributions, perhaps this FAQ can evolve into
a "UniVBE Workaround FAQ" with lists of cards and other games that use UniVBE.
Until then, this FAQ is best suited to be filed under "Mortal Kombat Trilogy
for PC" because that's all I have at this time to go on.

--------------------------
What Does This FAQ Do?
--------------------------
This FAQ is for users of Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PC that want to get around the "UniVBE"
detection errors they may be getting from the "Auto-Detection" phase and issues a way for
the user to use the "Manual Overrides" to configure "UniVBE" to cooperate with their video
cards. As in the case with the 3DFX Voodoo Banshee, I had this workaround for a long time.

Before that, I had a Diamond Stealth II s220 (Redition chipset) video card UniVBE detection
on that wasn't bad. However, upon getting the Banshee, I always got the dreaded warnings of
"Hardware Not VESA!!" or "Hardware Is Not VGA!". I figured that with enough tinkering,
I'd find settings in the Manual-Overides that would work. When I did, I pretty much
sat on the secret thinking, "Hell, nobody prolly plays this game anymore or had it patched."

Boy, was I ever wrong!!

MK purists still played MKT on their PC, but when they upgraded the video cards,
UniVBE had fits with them, and the result was the game would not run. I've always
meant to post this workaround (I've had it since maybe middle of 1998 or so) but
"Real Life" stuff kept me preoccupied and my interest in MK dwindled. Not long ago
I snagged a Voodoo3 and figured out the settings I used for my Banshee would work
great....BUT I FORGOT THEM! *LOL*

I was back at square one tinkering and moments later, MKT for PC was hauling major
league arse on my 350mhz machine with the Voodoo3. Once again, I always meant to
post this fix on the MK fan sites and stuff, but always got side tracked. Recently,
while perusing the message boards at "TRMK" (The Realm Of Mortal Kombat"), I found
a slew of angry MK fans wanting to play MKT on their PC but UniVBE was giving them
a load of crap about it since their video cards were very recent compared to those
that were on the market when MKT was released.

I went back, checked my settings, compiled them into this very text file (sans the
apologetic garbage you're reading now *heh*) and posted it on the 3DFX Message boards
as well as at the boards at TRMK.

And now, you're at GameFAQS.com!!
Here's your MKT for PC fix!
It's been long overdue!! ;)

--------------------------------
What Do I Need To Do?
--------------------------------

Run "wuvconfig.exe" from the folder the game is installed into. Instead of letting
UniVBE auto-detect your hardware, choose "Manual Overide". Next, scroll through this
FAQ and find the game's title, and the name of the company that made your video card.
Enter the settings from the drop-down menus of "UniVBE" provided under each listing.

After entering this info, let UniVBE detect all the available display modes (it's wise
to turn off older monitors during this - If your monitor is a more recent PnP model
that supports DMPS Modes (Sleep & Standbye) then you won't have to turn the monitor off.
This process should only take 3-5 seconds.

After this, UniVBE should tell you that it is configured for max performance.

Now, you should be able to run the game!!

Enter the following settings:

SuperVGA ID: Acer Labs
Chipset ID : Unknown ALi
Vid Memory : 8192KB
RAM Dac ID : (Generic 24-bit DAC)
Clock Chip : (Standard VGA Clocks)

For best results, try 2x Windowed mode. Full Screen mode will work also
but it may be off centered due to the refresh rates of your monitor.

DISCLAIMER
---------------------------------

**NOTE**

This is not a guaranteed workaround and may or may not work
with your particular monitor or system. Try this at your own risk!!
I will not be responsible. It is unknown how these settings will
work on AGP versions of these cards and I don't have them for
testing.

Future Plans
---------------------------------

This FAQ will rely on you to provide more information so this
FAQ can be updated with more listings for other brands of video
cards and perhaps other games that use old versions of "UniVBE"
