VI. SECRETS!!!

I. Welcome to Dream Land, a small and peaceful country situated on a far
away little star. In Dream Land the local pastime is a puzzle game called
"Avalanche". Kirby decided since every Dream Lander plays the game, it
would be a great idea to hace a country wide competition to determine who is
the best player of all..

After months of organizing, The First Annual Dream Land's Avalanche
Competition was finally announced. To be heald at the Dream Fountain, this
would be the biggest event in the history of Dream Land!

All the Dream Landers have been practicing, and all plan to attend and
compete. Like Kirby, they have been dreaming sweet dreams of becoming the
Avalanche Champion and claiming the highly sought after "Dream Fountain
Cup".

The for the compeition are quite simple: Everyone will travel by foot to the
Dream Fountain. If, while on their journey, two Dream Landers happen to
meet, they must challenge each other to an Avalanche match. Only the winner
of the match may continue onward towards the Dream Fountain. In this way,
the numver of competitors will be whittled down to a manageable size before
the final action at the Dream Fountain.

Can you help guide Kirby through the competition so he arrives successfully
at the Dream Fountain? Can he rise above the grizzled veterans and achieve
his dream of becoming the reigning champion? His fate is in your hands!

II. Kirby's Avalanche is very similar to tetris except for the fact that you
are trying to match up the colors of the blobs. The blobs come down 2 by 2
and if four blobs connect then the explode. To rotate the blobs clockwise
press Y or A. To rotate them counterclockwise press B.

III. Boulders are very different from blobs because they are meant to work
against you. Boulders are created when either you or your opponent makes a
chain reaction or explodes 5 or more blobs of the same color. Before the
boulders fall warning icons appear at the very top of the screen where the
blobs fall out. Since there are only six spaces up there, and at times very
large chain reactions can be made, the game has set up a system of symbols
to equal a certain amount of boulders about to fall on either you or your
opponent.

A. Small clear boulders = 1 boulder
B. Large clear boulders = 6 boulders
C. Large brown boulders = 36 boulders

IV. Chain reactions are the most common way of creating boulders to fall on
your opponents. This process is very hard to explain while writing the
easiest way to understand is to see it for yourself. To do this you can
choose one of two options. You can either look through the instructional
manual that came with the game or, not touch any buttons once you put the
game in your Super Nintendo and watch as it automatically goes to an
instructional demo.

V. Certain competitors have different strategies for trying to beat you in a
game of Avalanche. Therefore I have written all of these strategies in the
following and have also written recommended counterstrategies to defeating
these bosses.

Waddle Dee
Waddle Dee is the easiest one too defeat. Basically, as long as you don't
stack up your blobs you will win. Use this oppurtunity to practice your
chain reaction skills trying to get them faster and bigger as you will need
these skills later on. (This match also comes with hints as the blobs blink
everytime there is an oppurtunity to explode four together.)

Bronto Burt
Bronto Burt is about twice as hard to defeat as Waddle Dee.(But don't worry
that isn't very hard.) All I can really say is try to get some good
Avalanches on him, because he isn't much of an opponent either.

Waddle Doo-
Waddle Doo is Waddle Dee's first cousin. Outraged that you beat Waddle Dee
so easily he challenges you to a game of Avalanche. He is not nearly as
easy as the book says, so try to defeat him quick because he can make
excellent come backs given the time and oppurtunity.

Congratulations you finished the Practice Round!!!

Poppy Bros. Sr.
This character is rather easy and every once in awhile will hit you with a
"COOL".(single chain reaction) Don't get nervous or anything just calm down
and whoop his butt.

Whispy Woods
Whispy Woods starts all avalanche games by building four rows of blobs
regardless. So take this oppurtunity while he is wasting time to give him an
avalanche, even if a small one, because then he has to start all over again
because the boulders are blocking access to the blobs he laid down. After
that hit him with another one and he will defeat himself.

Kabu
Kabu starts his game like any normal avalanche player, but watch out because
he will get you when you are just starting to build your huge avalanche to
smother him.

Broom Hatter
Broom Hatter starts by filling the very left and very right columns with
blobs. As with Whispy Woods take this oppurtunity to prepare a chain
reaction. Even if it is a small one it will get her because it can only
fall in the middle columns. Therefore if you hit her with a medium-sized
avalanche it will turn out to be really big because it can fall only in the
middle columns. After that she will have no more room left and be defeated.

Squishy
Be prepared, Squishy is much harder than your previous match-ups. If you
take to long to hit him with a good avalanche he will smother you and defeat
you. Therefore make your game brief and hit him with all you've got.

Lololo and Lalala
This infamous duet can be conquered if you hit them with a good avalanche
and FAST!! I'm not talking about dinky "YES"'s (your single chain reaction)
I mean "EXCELLENT"'s (double) or if you are really good "WATCH OUT"'s
(triple). Like I mentioned earlier however do it quick, but after that don't
worry because once you have them down they're down.

Bugzzy
Don't be intimidated by this boss. The best way to defeat him is to get a
good avalanche on him at the right time. The reason is because Bugzzy's
strategy is building up a lot of blobs to get really good avalanches. He,
however, piles them very high, almost reaching the top. This is the best
time to launch your attack because then there will be no room left. However
be careful not to do it too early because then he can make a come back, but
if you do it too late he will already have smothered you and he will be back
down at the bottom again.

Paint Roller
Paint Roller in my opinion is one of the hardest bosses to defeat. He has
basically the same strategy described above for Bugzzy, but is much quicker
in his avalanches. Don't let him get you down though because once you're
down there is close to no escape.

Heavy Mole
As odd as it sounds, Heavy Mole hits you when you least expect it. Don't
plan just one attack at a time, try to have simultaneous chain reactions,
giving him one after the other to block his attacks.

Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright
I don't think there is a real strategy to beating this deadly duo. Try to do
your best and be yourself. I can, however give advice on what they do.
These two like to just connect blobs and rely on luck to make chain
reactions for them. So if you give them one big avalanche, they will not
have the skill to make a come back and will be defeated.

Kracko
Here is yet another boss that likes to pile high and lanch big attacks. He
is, however, better at it than Bugzzy and Paint Roller. Try to do what he
does and give him big attacks before he can get you!

Meta Knight
Meta Knight likes to keep his attacks very small, limiting himself to
"COOL"'s. The tricky part is that he launches them faster than you can say
his name. Try to do the opposite of what he does and give him a big attack
all at once, however when doing so and after be prepared for an attack from
him,(Meta Knight is widely known for his come backs) however small they may
be a boulder in a crucial place and time can mess up your entire chain
reaction.

King Dedede
King Dedede is not as hard as he sounds. The trick is to, every once in a
while, launch small attacks. If you continue to do so he will bury himself
in his feeble attempts to make a comeback. However, don't get overly
confident because sometimes he succeeds in making a comeback and can crush
you.

VI. Finally, if you want to practice on one caharacter alone and not have to
go through all the others, this might help you. If you press A, X, B, and Y
on your control pad and restart the game, the CUSTOM option under OPTIONS
will have more items plus a SPECIAL CUSTOM in which you can reduce the blob
fall speed, choose where the PRACTICE session under COMPETITION will start,
allowing you to fight any boss at any time you choose.

In conclusion I would like to remind you that, depending on your playing
style, some of these tips might not work. So, if you can't beat a
particular boss try to practice with a friend, or practice in the game by
yourself. I find that this always helps me when, for some reason, I just
can't beat a particular character.
