Arcade Mode

Let's not toot our own horn, Capcom...

First off, choose between the following settings:
-Ratio Match: Create your team based on the 4 point Ratio system
-3 on 3 Match: Create three person teams ala King of Fighters
-Single Match: 1 on 1 action

After selecting your choice, you'll be asked which Groove you want to fight in.
For more info on the Groove system, see the Groove Selection portion of the FAQ.
So choose your Groove, character(s), and get ready to work your way through the
computer controlled opponents. There's no real ending, sadly.

Vs Mode

"Play a head-to-head battle between two players. You can save a 'replay file'."

Yup yup yup...

It's about the same as Arcade Mode, only you fight a pal instead of the comp.
You select from the same three choices and choose characters in the same manner
as the Arcade Mode.

Training Mode

"Practice your combos and special moves here."

Yup, sounds about right...

Select your stage, Groove, character, and ratio. Do the same for your dummy
opponent as well.

In the battle, you can choose from the following options (defaults first):

-Continue: Back to the fight
-Restart: Restart the fight with the same characters

"Defeat as many opponents as possible given a set amount of vitality."

So like, beat people without dying or getting full health every round.

First off, choose from the following:
-All Survival: Fight against every single character in the game
-Infinity Survival: Just keep fighting till you die

After choosing, select a character the usual way and prepare for battle. After
you win a round, you'll go into the next battle with only slightly more health
than you finished the previous round with.

Color Edit Mode

Choose a character and repaint them to please you. This mode is pretty self
explanatory and I think you can figure it out by toying with it.

In my Capcom vs SNK FAQ, I had a huge list of colors for the characters. Seeing
as how there are already plenty of FAQs for just that on this game, I don't 
currently plan to make a color list. That may change one day.

Groove Selection
************************************************

C-Groove
(Three Levels) Super Combo System
------------------------------------

Gauge: Your gauge in this mode increases as you attack. Your gauge has a maximum
of three levels that it can reach. You can use up 1 to 3 of these levels at a 
time depending on the button you press when you execute the super. Use the
weakest buttons for 1 level, the medium buttons for 2 levels, and the hardest
buttons for 3 levels.

Dash: Double tap forward or backward to dash in that direction. A dash is 
basically a short hop in that direction.

Air Guard: Hold back while in the air to guard against special attacks while in
the air the same way as you would on the ground.

Counter Attack: Press forward + SP + FK (the medium buttons) at the same time
while blocking an opponent's attack to counterattack.

Rolling: Press JP + SK (the light buttons) at the same time to roll. You can
use this to maneuver around the enemy for a surprise attack. The best use for
this move is to keep your character occupied while you do the direction
presses for a hard to pull off maneuver.

Tactical Recovery: Press the three punch buttons while on the ground to keep
from standing up.

A-Groove
Custom Combo System
------------------------------------

Gauge: Your gauge in this mode increases as you attack. You can only perform
level 1 supers, which drains 50% of the gauge. When the gauge is completely full
you can press FP+RK (the hard buttons) to initiate a Custom Combo.

Custom Combo: During a custom combo, your speed is increased and your recovery
time from executing moves is all but nil, enabling you to link together almost
anything. The best use is to get in close and do as much damage as you can
before the combo is done, then finish with a Level 1 super.

Dash: Double tap forward or backward to dash in that direction. A dash is 
basically a short hop in that direction.

Counter Attack: Press forward + SP + FK (the medium buttons) at the same time
while blocking an opponent's attack to counterattack.

Rolling: Press JP + SK (the light buttons) at the same time to roll. You can
use this to maneuver around the enemy for a surprise attack. The best use for
this move is to keep your character occupied while you do the direction
presses for a hard to pull off maneuver.

Safe Fall: Press the three punches together while falling and you'll roll
when you hit the ground, thus keeping the opponent from boxing you in 
anywhere.

Parrying & Super Combo System
------------------------------------

Gauge: Your gauge in this mode increases as you attack or as you perform a Parry
of an opponent's attack. You have a level 3 bar that can only be used once.

Parry: As soon as you're hit by an opponent, press forward (or down if the
attack is low) to parry that attack. You won't get hurt and you'll get a chance
to counterattack.

Dash: Double tap forward or backward to dash in that direction. A dash is 
basically a short hop in that direction.

Small Jump: Tap an upward direction to do a short jump in that direction.

Tactical Recovery: Press the three punch buttons while on the ground to keep
from standing up.

S-Groove
Extra Gauge & Special Move System
------------------------------------

Gauge: To increase your gauge in this mode, hold FP and RK together to charge
the gauge up. When the gauge is full, your attacks are stronger and you can do a
Super Move. Also, when your life is in the red, you have unlimited Super Moves.
If you have a full gauge and red life, you can do a MAX Super Move.

Run: Tap a direction then hold it to run in that direction for as long as you
want to. Stop by letting go of the direction.

Small Jump: Tap an upward direction to do a short jump in that direction.

Counter Attack: Press forward + SP + FK (the medium buttons) at the same time
while blocking an opponent's attack to counterattack.

Tactical Recovery: Press the three punch buttons while on the ground to keep
from standing up.

Dodge: Press JP + SK (the light buttons) at the same time to dodge an attack.
This is extremely useful in that you can dodge almost anything.

N-Groove
Advanced Gauge & Special Move System
------------------------------------

Gauge: Your gauge in this mode increases as you attack. When your gauge fills, 
you store a charge. You can store up to three charges. Each Super Move uses a
charge. You can also use a charge to enter Power MAX mode by pressing FP + RK
(the strong buttons) together. In this mode your attack power increases. If you
do any Super Moves in Power MAX mode, you'll do the MAX version of the move.

Run: Tap a direction then hold it to run in that direction for as long as you
want to. Stop by letting go of the direction.

Small Jump: Tap an upward direction to do a short jump in that direction.

Counter Movement: Pressing forward or backward + JP + SK (the weak buttons)
while blocking allows you to move in that direction immediately.

Counter Attack: Press forward + SP + FK (the medium buttons) at the same time
while blocking an opponent's attack to counterattack.

Rolling: Press JP + SK (the light buttons) at the same time to roll. You can
use this to maneuver around the enemy for a surprise attack. The best use for
this move is to keep your character occupied while you do the direction
presses for a hard to pull off maneuver.

Safe Fall: Press the three punches together while falling and you'll roll
when you hit the ground, thus keeping the opponent from boxing you in 
anywhere.

Just Defended & Rage Gauge System
------------------------------------

Gauge: Your gauge in this mode increases as you attack or perform Just Defense
maneuvers. When the gauge is full you enter Rage MAX mode where your attacks
are stronger and you can perform a MAX Super Move.

Just Defense: To do this, you must wait to block until right before the attack
touches you. You won't be hit back, or take any guard damage and have a chance
to counterattack.

Run: Tap a direction then hold it to run in that direction for as long as you
want to. Stop by letting go of the direction.

Small Jump: Tap an upward direction to do a short jump in that direction.

Safe Fall: Press the three punches together while falling and you'll roll
when you hit the ground, thus keeping the opponent from boxing you in 
anywhere.
