===============<  2. Stories  >==============================================

---------< 2.1 The Plot >--------------------------------------------------

The Shaolin Tournament for Martial Arts...

For ages it was a competition of honor and glory. Noble warriors from
around the globe were invited to take part, each seeking to win the title of
Grand Champion.
But that was a long time ago... before the tournament was corrupted by
the evil demon Shang Tsung, a warrior who took not only the lives of his
opponents, but their very souls...
With the aid of his pupil Goro, a hideous half-human dragon, Tsung
began a domination of the contest which has lasted for centuries.
Today, 500 years later, the contest begins anew as warriors once again
gather to partake in Mortal Kombat.

---------< 2.2 Character Backgrounds >-------------------------------------

These are the stories from the instruction manual, not the game's buy-in
screens. I used the instruction manual because it has more to the stories. I
didn't include character's age, height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc.,
since they are unnecessary and pointless.

- Kano
A mercenary, thug, extortionist, thief- Kano lives a life of crime and
injustice. He is a devoted member of the Black Dragon, a dangerous
group of cut-throat madmen feared and respected throughout all of
crime's inner circles. Believing Tsung's palace to be made of gold,
Kano has entered the tournament in order to gain access to and loot the
      palace.

- Rayden
The name Rayden is actually that of a mystical warrior who lives among
the thunder clouds. It is rumored that he received a personal
invitation from Shang Tsung himself and took the form of a human to
compete in the tournament. Rayden's elemental power makes him a
dangerous foe from both the land and the air.

- Liu Kang
Once a member of the super-secret White Lotus Society, Liu Kang left
the organization in order to represent all Shaolin temples at the
tournament. Through his entire life he has heard stories and rumors
about Shang Tsung's martial arts tournament. He is well aware of the
evil behind it, and has entered the tournament expressly to defeat
Shang Tsung and return the tournament to its noble origins.

- Scorpion
Like Sub-Zero, Scorpion's true name and origin are not known. It is
believed, however, that he is a fallen ninja granted the opportunity to
avenge his death at the hands of the Lin Kuei. He has been given a new
body and a uniform which mocks the Lin Kuei's with its cowardly yellow
      color.

- Sub-Zero
The actual name and origin of this warrior is unknown. However, based
on his uniform, it is believed he belongs to the Lin Kuei, a legendary
clan of Chinese ninjas. As his name implies, he has mastered the
element of cold. His deep freeze leaves and opponent at his mercy, a
dangerous situation, for Sub-Zero possesses none.

- Sonya
Sonya Blade is a member of a top special forces unit. Her team was hot
on the trail of Kano's Black Dragon. Her unit followed Kano to an
uncharted island, but were ambushed by Shang Tsung's personal army.
Tsung forced Sonya into the tournament by holding comrades hostage.
Now, not only does her own life rest on her performance, but those of
      her companions as well!

- Goro
A 2000 year old half-human dragon, Goro remains undefeated for the past
500 years. He won the title of Grand Champion by defeating Kung Lao, a
Shaolin fighting monk. It was during this period that the tournament
fell into Shang Tsung's hands and was corrupted. Goro possesses both
massive strength and great agility. None who have fought him have
reported any weaknesses. In fact, none who have opposed him have
      survived!

- Shang Tsung
      <none>

- On Game Boy, Fatalities can be performed at any distance from your
opponent, except for Scorpion and Sonya. After their Fatalities, it shows
  where to perform them.

- The moves are hard to do unless you do them slow and rhythmically. Sonya's
Leg Throw will only work if done over and over.

===============<  2. How to Fight  >=========================================

All damage %'s are approximate. I got the %'s from using a move until one
more Low Punch would kill the opponent. It takes 16 Low Punches to win by
just using Low Punches, so 100/16 = 6.25. Then I subtracted 6.25 from 100 and
divided by how many times I used the special move. If I got a decimal, then I
rounded to the closest tenth. In a case where a move added up to 100%
exactly, I didn't need to use the step above.

===============<  4. Glitches  >=============================================

- Double Hit
Press Punch after connecting a Knife, Fireball, Lightning Bolt, or
Rings with your opponent for an extra hit.

- Typo
In the instruction manual under Rayden's story, the word 'invitation'
is misspelled 'invitiation'. How could they do that to me!?

===============<  1. Johnny Cage  >==========================================

With a GameShark, type in "011040D6" to fight Cage.

On the tower, he's above Shang Tsung. When the match starts, you will find he
looks like Sonya, but don't be deceived, it's really Johnny. The only reason
he looks like Sonya is because his sprites didn't get programmed in.

Reasons why he's Cage and not Sonya:
      1. His life-bar say's "Cage".
      2. It says "Finish Him" not "Finish Her".
      3. He doesn't do ANY of Sonya's moves.
      4. He has a Fireball, not Rings
      5. Maybe he's a cross-dresser?

-Move- -Input- -Damage- -Points-

Fireball* ? 15.6% ?
Shadow Kick ? (might not be in there) ?.?% ?
Nut Punch ? (might not be in there) ?.?% ?

Finishing Move ? 100,000
  (unknown)

*His Fireball only comes out to sweep range. Unless you are that close to
 him, you won't get hurt.

!If you have any more info on him, then please e-mail me!

- Paul Courtney (PaulKortne@yahoo.com)
I tried to compile everything I knew and could find for the Ultimate MK
FAQ. I found all the damage %'s, the points, and documented the
variables for the GameShark codes. The ASCII art is also by me.

- Justin (serpent3@hotmail.com)
I used some of the GameShark and GameGenie codes from his site.
