1. Introduction
-----------------
I hate the game tennis in real life. It's a game for rich kids and
yuppies to play in-between buying stocks the and taking their model
girlfriends out to dinner. I know I'm stereotyping, but this is my
opinion. However, Tennis, the NES version, is a classic. The Nintendo
Sports Series includes such amazing titles as Golf, Baseball, and Ten-
Yard Fight. Tennis is right up there with them, a tennis game to end all
tennis games. If you ever play a tennis game in your life, and you're
not a yuppie's rich kid, this is the one.

2. Overview And Controls
-------------------------
This is basically tennis, with all the same rules and
regulations. You can play by yourself, one on one with the computer, or
with a friend, going head to head with TWO, count 'em, TWO computer
opponents. This game was definetly ahead of its time when it comes to
graphics, composed mainly of a bunch of heads watching a bunch of pixels
hitting a pixel. This was all overseen by Mario, the man himself as
referee. Takes your breath away. Anyway, the controls for this game are:
D-Pad - Moves the tennis player
START - Pauses the game, makes a selection on the first menu
SELECT - Selects a selection on the first menu
A Button or B Button - Swing racket, throw ball up in the air
            for the serve.

3.Tennis, The Nintendo Rules
-----------------------------
Ah, tennis, the sport of kings. Basically, you hit the ball with
a racket to the other side of the court. Your opponent has to hit the
ball back to your side. Then you have to hit the ball back, and he does
the same, ad nauseum. This game was made to entertain the mentally
challenged, not an athlete. " WOW, you hit the ball to my side again!!
Can I step up to the challenege of hitting the ball back to your side?
The suspense.". Here's the layout of the court:

                 ---------------------------------------

That's some nice ASCII Art right there. Something for you
wannabes to look up to. OK, here's the rules of tennis. You hit the ball
to the other guy's side, he hits it back. If you hit the net, your
opponent hits the ball past you, or the ball goes out of bounds, you
lose the point. If your opponent hits the net, you hit the ball past
him, or the ball goes out of bounds, you get the point. You play up to
whoever gets past 40 first in tennis. The scoring goes by 15, then 10,
so it's 0, then 15 for the first point, 30 for the next, 40 for the
third, and whoever scores next for the game. Except in tennis, 0 is
called love, for some reason beyond my understanding( And no, I don't
want any e-mails giving me the history of love in tennis.). Anyway, if
you both reach 40 in a game, a deuce is called. Whoever scores the next
point gets an A next to his name for his score. Score again, and you win
the game. However, if your opponent scores, then it goes back to nothing
again.
There are 8 games in a set, and 3 sets in a match. Whoever wins
the most matches out of 3 wins the match. There is only one difference
in doubles: the double line is no longer the out-of-bounds. The
outermost line is now out-of-bounds. And before I forget, there is also
something called the fault during your serve. If you hit the net or the
ball goes out of bounds on your serve, this is called a fault. If you do
it again, it is called a double fault, and the point goes to the
computer. And that, my friends, is how the game is played.

4.The Perfect Serve
--------------------
Ah, the serve. This can make or break your game, especially against
the vicious tennis skills of the computer. Let me tell you, he used to
make me beg for mercy. There was no way I could beat him. It was like
playing tennis with a brick wall. Was there no hope? Until I discovered
it. THE PERFECT SERVE. Unbeatable, it worked against both computer and
human opponents, and led to the cheapest victories you can imagine.
Here's how:

1.) Make sure your character is moved a little bit to the right or left.
If you move too far right or left, the computer will automatically throw
the ball up in the air, and you'll probably miss. So only a bit.
2.) Press the A Button, and watch the ball go up in the air. Count out
2.5 seconds.
3.) Swing and pray

This usually works against the computer skill levels 1-3, but i
doubt it will affect the bastard that is computer skill level 5. He will
drive you into the ground, so you're gonna have to think of something
better than this. Good luck, you poor, poor person.

5. Tips And Tricks
--------------------
 - When you play doubles, always have the front man hit the ball, no
matter what. Otherwise, the back man will hit it, and the computer's
front man will spit the ball right back in your eye.
- Pratice makes perfect, but this game is based on a lot of luck. Make
sure you have some before you play this game.
- A forehand and backhand actually change direction of the ball. Make
sure you are in the right position before you hit the ball, or it will
hit somebody in the crowd instead of the court.

Another FAQ from Raging_DemonTEN. If you have any questions or
comments, and you're not gonna cry and moan about how I potrayed tennis
as a pansy sport, then e-mail me at eagle25_100@yahoo.com. And yes, I've
never played tennis in real life.
