| [i] | Introduction to Ancient Text |
==
Lufia: The Legend Returns, released on September 19th, 2001, incorporates a new
sort of Ancient Text system different from the one seen in its predecessors.
Lufia II: Return of the Sinistrals did have an IP Skill system where
getting hit would boost your "IP" meter. Once it reached a certain point, you
could use certain attacks in respect to the equipment you were wearing.

With this new Game Boy Color hit, you learn IP Skills by finding certain Ancient
Texts in dungeons spread throughout the vast world. They are mostly hidden in
secret rooms; you will not often find an Ancient Text in just a treasure out in
  the open.

Ancient Texts can only be used (learned) by certain members of the party,
mostly depending on their "class". For example, Dei (Thief) can use skills like
Loot-Grab to steal from monsters while Aima (Martial Arts) can use stuff like
  Energy Punch.

| [ii] | Spiritual Force (SF) |
==
Spiritual Force, commonly known as SF, is what all members of the party produce.
SF is split into four colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green. Each member of the
party emits a certain color (only one, unfortunately) to all the members in
adjacent positions. The way you position your team on the field is very important.
  This is illustrated below:

    SF FLOW:
      1 2 3 1 2 3
     _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____
  A | >> >> | A | R4 | B6 | G5 |
    |_____|_____|_____| |_____|_____|_____|
     __^__ __^__ __^__ _____ _____ _____
  B | >> >> | B | Y2 | | |
    |_____<<_v__>>____| |_____|_____|_____|
     __^__ _____ __^__ _____ _____ _____
  C | >> >> | C | R7 | | |
    |_____|_____|_____| |_____|_____|_____|

In the table on the left, we'll focus on the player in A1. SF is flowing to A1
vertically and horizontally. The result is:

   SF: RED 4 (Base)
         + YELLOW 2 (From B1)
         + RED 7 (From C1)
         + BLUE 6 (From A2)
         + GREEN 5 (From A3)
         ------------
         R11 Y2 B6 G5

This may look at bit confusing at first, but all you need to remember is that
SF cannot flow in a diagonal pattern. So the member at A1 will give SF to
  members A2, A3, B1, and C1, and vice versa.

Let's say we want to learn Dash Attack. It requires 9 RED SF and 6 YELLOW SF.
Only Dei can learn this skill. Let's say you have your party positioned like
this (though I'm sure you wouldn't... this is only an example ;)
     _____ _____ ____
    |Wain | | |
    |_____|_____|____|
     _____ _____ ____
    | |Seena| |
    |_____|_____| ___|
     _____ _____ ____
    | | |Dei |
    |_____|_____|____|

No SF will be flowing because of the diagonal positioning. Wain will have only
RED SF, Seena BLUE SF, and Dei YELLOW SF. However...

     _____ _____ ____
    |Wain | |Dei |
    |_____|_____|____|
     _____ _____ ____
    | |Seena| |
    |_____|_____| ___|
     _____ _____ ____
    | | | |
    |_____|_____|____|

Even when there's a space between members, the SF is still exchanged. In this
example, Dei's and Wain's SF are now both exchanged, so Wain has YELLOW SF in
addition to his RED SF, and Dei now has RED SF as well, so he can learn Dash
  Attack!

While the learning of new IP Skills requires certain colours of SF, it also
requires a certain amount of that colour. After every battle, you will receive
Learning Points (LP). These can be used to either raising your SF or spent at
  a church to learn magic.

In addition to being required to learn an IP Skill, to actually USE an IP Skill,
you'll need a certain amount of SF. If that amount is not fulfilled, the cost
to use the IP Skill will be greater.

Ancient Text -> IP Skill -> Hit Absorption

This flow-chart just explains how IP Skills work. When you use an Ancient
Text, you learn the corresponding IP Skill. When you're hit in battle, the IP
Meter (the one with the fire beside it) that each character has rises. When this
meter reaches a certain level, a skill can be used.

IP Skills vary. From multiplying the damage of certain attacks by amounts to
stealing from an enemy to raising a certain stat point, they're all capable of
  being life-saving in battle.

  - Mousse cannot learn any IP skills. It attacks on his own with its own set of
    skills. They include:

    Mousse Punch - Damage 2
Mousse Double Punch - Hits twice
Mysterious Bubble - Lowers an enemy's DFP
    Tail Illusion - Damage ~4

  - Once an Ancient Text is found in a dungeon, it is likely that it will not be
found again until later. The other texts in the dungeon will spawn first.

  - Ancient Texts are found randomly in the Ancient Cave. None of them found will
be retained when you leave. :(

  - You can get the ultimate Ancient Text, D-End Flash, from Iris at Level 200 of
the Ancient Cave. (Don't ask me how I beat her, I did it unlegitly. ;))

  - An Ancient Text can only be used once on a character.

  - IP rises from being hit as well as from attacking, though it rises a great deal
    more from being hit.
