This struck me as odd, due to the fact that Star Fox was sort of an entry game to the 64. I mean, this is the first game with real dialogue, a sound test option and a real simulation to airplane flight. Well, there are a LOT of people who think the same of this game, so I made a longer, better FAQ to this game. That is what I do (sorry, for those of you who wrote a FAQ on Star Fox, but I had to get that off my chest). ___ ___ 6 4 -2- ==/ __|| _|============================================================ \__ \| _| U P D A T E H I S T O R Y ==|___/|_|============================================================== This is where you read and see what I did... as if you care! ---Version 1.0---------------------------------------------------------- = Kratt ~ October 6, 2000 = - Completed the Introduction - Completed the Story - Started the Characters section - Completed the Controls section - Completed the Boss FAQ - Completed the Title (ASCII art coming soon) - Started the About the Author section - Completed the About the FAQ section ---Version 1.1---------------------------------------------------------- = Kratt ~ October 10, 2000 = - Did the Ending - ASCII Art Added ---Version 1.2---------------------------------------------------------- = Kratt ~ October 12, 2000 = - Updated the (stupid) end. - Updated the (dumb) Introduction - Started the Walkthrough - Started the Credits section ---Version 1.3---------------------------------------------------------- = Kratt ~ October 12, 2000 = - Updated the Introduction - Updated the About my FAQ section - Updated the Story - Updated the Headings -- Added SF64 to each - Updated the ASCII Art ---Version 1.4---------------------------------------------------------- = Kratt ~ October 30, 2000 = - Changed around a few things, making the FAQ size not grow too much - Updated the Table of Contents - Did a _minor_ update on EVERYTHING -- no joke! He unleashed a bio-weapon on his home world of Corneria and he was charged for treason and was banished to the world of Venom. Five years have passed, and a certain general by the name of Pepper noticed strange activity coming from the planet Venom. So, he sent the old Star Fox team consisting of James McCloud, Pigma Dengar, and Peppy Hare, to investigate. As they arrived, Andross opened a private com-link to Pigma, offering him money to bring James and Peppy into his trap. James fell victim in his trap and Peppy just barely escaped. On the power he had left, Peppy returned home and told James' son Fox... the bad news. Another five years have gone by, and General Pepper has formed a new Star Fox team, due to the fact that Andross has attacked the entirety of the Lylat System. This time Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi, will not fail. ---Your Objective------------------------------------------------------- What you must do is defeat Andross! ...but there's more to it than that. Or you could try time trial: killing enemies for points (kill your friends, then check their point score, hee, heh, heh). And for last, try battle royal: it gives you 1, that's 1 life to screw up. This is the story of the level. The Cornerian Army can't hold back Andross' forces much longer. That's were you come in; come in and defeat the leader. ---Level Stats---------------------------------------------------------- This is the info about the planet and stuff. Here you must save Falco. Now when you get to the second part of the water, fly through the arches creeping up through the water. ---Boss: Granga--------------------------------------------------------- This is pretty easy, but there is one hard point: the extra Arwing. I'll explain this in the secrets section. Any-hoo, after the 'all range mode' cut-scene, you are faced with Granga. Start to pummel his legs with laser fire and pull a turbo boost under his legs. Execute a U-turn and if he didn't fall, shoot his legs again, this time he should definitely fall. As he's falling, turbo boost through his legs again and do another U- turn, now bomb and fire at his green backpack like crazy! Repeat as necessary. Yay! The evil robot blew up in the worst explosion ever! Yippee! ---Boss: Attack Carrier------------------------------------------------- Just another simple boss but can pose a slight challenge for beginners. Still only one star. As Peppy advises, "Incoming enemy from behind. Drop altitude." Do so (drop altitude means go down, Einstein). He'll pass you, and then you can go up. Yay! He's got a present for ya! Too bad it's enemies. As they come out, shoot the openings from which they come. They will eventually go. At this time he'll start to shoot at you. Shoot back. Why is Meteo so dense? I read a book that said, "in an asteroid field, the asteroids are between 1000 - 100 000 km. away from each other." The asteroids in Meteo, however, are between 10 - 20 METERS apart! Could someone PLEASE tell me what's going on? Did Earth just send out a whole bunch of asteroids into space, or is this game just real unrealistic? I'm so confused! Ohh! ---How to Beat Route #1------------------------------------------------- All you need to do is play through the level and defeat the Meteo Crusher at the end. ---How to Beat Route #2------------------------------------------------- Near the end, there will be things that resemble checkpoints. Fly through them and you will go faster. Fly through all of them to warp to the warp section and head to Katina. ---Boss: Meteo Crusher-------------------------------------------------- This boss is harder than the Cornerian bosses but is still pretty easy compared to the others ahead. This boss is split into sections. The first being the energy absorption shield. This shield absorbs everything that is shot into it and it shoots back at you. The way to avoid it is to find the crack in it. As it spins, there will be yellow triangles in the crack. Shoot them until all of them explode. The next section is the Particle Beam. A beam will fire at you in okay effects (actually, they are... ROTTEN! hee, hee). There will be a yellow diamond in the middle; shoot it between the times he shoots a beam at you. The last section is the rings (I couldn't think up a good name). They're these pink rings that the Crusher throws at you. There are two yellow rectangles you must shoot. In between rings, shoot them. To avoid the rings, pull a loop. (dryly) You beat the boss. Now, off to Venom 1... -7.07- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ K A T I N A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MISSION: _ _ ___ _____ _____ _ _ ___ | |/ / / _ \ |_ _||_ _|| \| | / _ \ | ( | _ | | | _| |_ | || _ | |_|\_\|_| |_| |_| |_____||_|\_||_| |_| ---Boss: Saucerer------------------------------------------------------- The mighty Saucerer of Oz! [trumpet blows badly] Wait... that's sorcerer of Oz. Ohh... that is... the mighty Saucerer of Katina! [trumpet blows] Any-hoo, (if I had something funny to say, err, type, I would) as you probably have guessed, the Saucerer is well... a flying saucer! It will fly over, after you have shot down ten ships (not counting the Cornerian troops) and it'll open up it's little hangars in the ensued cut-scene and _more_ little ships will come out making your life a living h*** (can't swear; on a library computer). Oh, and did I mention Bill Grey, the dog is here 'helping you'. Any-hoo, (I'm seeing a psychiatrist) shoot the hangars that pop down and they will blow giving you a 'Hit+5' and a job well done. After ALL of them go (or you take too long) the core will appear, getting ready for the final attack. Don't let it; shoot it, the core. It will stop and crash after a while. If you don't kill it, it will blow the Katina base. (dryly) Yay. The level is done, over with, kaput! Kaput? Where do I come up with these words? -7.08- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S O L A R ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MISSION: ____ ___ _ ___ ____ / __| / _ \ | | / _ \ | __ \ \__ \| (_) || |__ | _ || / |____/ \___/ |____||_| |_||_|\_\ -Into the Frying Pan- ---Boss: Vulcan--------------------------------------------------------- The boss that everyone thinks is stupid. No, really! Falco even calls Andross an insane fool! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! (Igor voice from "Frankenstein") It looks like an messenger of evil, Dr. Kratt. What should we do? (normal voice) Shoot it! Shoot it's arms! Okay... but really shoot it's arms. They will fall off for you. As you are doing this don't forget to avoid his attacks. They are as follows: Rock Spit, shoot the rocks, get the upgrades; Lava Wave, Vulcan will dive into the lava, creating a wave; and Swipe, a mere slap or punch to the Arwing. All of these you swerve to the side or up and down to avoid. Any-hoo, ([maniacal laughter] the doctors... they say... I'm hope-hope... less... [evil giggling] [cell door shutting]) the head is now your primary target. Fire at will! As you are firing, two _new_ attacks will be unleashed on you: a new, bigger edition of Lava Wave; and a sort of 'body attack'. He flies out of the lava and spins. As he does so, do your best to avoid the fire-balls that come at you. (Scotty voice from "Star Trek") The Vulcan is dead sir... and the transporters are at full capacity. (normal voice) Well... that was weird, but the Vulcan's head fell off! Because the game designers were lazy, that's why! What a weird train, huh? Any-hoo, (if you e-mail me about this, I'll reply: "Who cares; read the Introduction.") this boss is easy. Well, sort of... you first must shoot off his head and mouth. This may pose a challenge due to the fact that he will attack. If you see him charge up (he'll look really gay in the process) beware of falling thingies! These posts will attack you. Well not really _attack_ more of "stand in your way." Any-hoo, (come join me in the mental hospital) he will also try to eat you and throw you up. This hurts -- a lot. You can avoid these by swerving to avoid. "You can avoid these by swerving to avoid." Geez! The harder part is to shoot the rest of his life away. This is accomplished when he fires his boxes at you. The boxes are fired out of a hole that is created on the back of the train. Shoot at this hole and Mechbeth will go... CRAZY! Really! He goes nuts! This is your chance to shoot him. As the beam that Goras fires at you, Mechbeth has one of his own. Hover and swerve violently to avoid. There he goes... {SPOILER -- CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK} ...right into the train. Boy is he an idiot, or what? Oh well, we won so it doesn't matter, does it? I have a lot of questions, don't I? Hee, hee, hee! ---Boss: The Switches--------------------------------------------------- This is easy! So easy, I put it in the FAQ! [evil giggles] [cell door shutting] This is pretty easy, so you shouldn't have any problems. There are eight switches; you need to shoot them all to 'accomplish' the mission. Otherwise, you need to fight Mechbeth. #1: On the right side of the track; after the building that's after the silver rings. #2: Near the first switch. #3: On the left side of the track; near the first switch. #4: Opposite the track of the third on a building. Easier to get while hovering. #5: On the left side of the track. Appears after ROB 64 calls you. #6: In front of a door you must shoot to open on the right side of the track. #7: On the left side of the track in front of a building. Found after the sixth one. #8: Opposite the seventh. If Falco is here, he'll shoot it for you. Yippee! That takes care of the switches! Enjoy the cut-scene and don't enjoy Area 6... heh... heh... heh... -7.10- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ S E C T O R Y ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MISSION: ____ ____ ___ _____ ___ ____ _ _ / __|| __| / __||_ _| / _ \ | __ \ \ | / \__ \| __|| (__ | | | (_) || / | | |____/|____| \___| |_| \___/ |_|\_\ |_| ---Boss: Shogun Warriors------------------------------------------------ These are two little... annoying... guys... that... I... want... to... MANGLE!!! Phew! Had to get that out! Hee, hee! The point of this is to get you ready to _battle_ the Shogun Warlord. So, all you do is shoot at them! Pretty easy I'd say. There, it's over. Okay, all right, I'll tell you more... sheesh! Any-hoo, (put down the gun... you don't want to shoot me. I'm writing this FAQ! [gunshot]Ohh...) they attack by shooting lasers. Heh, heh, heh. ---Boss: Shogun Warlord------------------------------------------------- Easy-peasy (???)! What? Where DO I come up with these words? NOTE: Cut and pasted from above. This should be as hard as the Shogun Warriors were to you. If not? Who cares? So, all you do is shoot at him! Pretty easy I'd say. There, it's over. Okay, all right, I'll tell you more... sheesh! Any-hoo, ([groans of pain] what the-- [gunshot] ohh... that hurt-- [multiple gunshots]) they attack by shooting lasers. That's it. Oh! Don't forget that if you can't find them, pull a U-turn! There. Ho-hum... kill it... ho-hum... hee, hee! First, destroy the things on top with torpedoes. Do this for two reasons: 1. They shoot snake-like creatures at you. 2. They give you four points each. Any-hoo, (I'm just not gonna say anything) after they're gone, focus on the muscles stretched between the top and the bottom of the Bacoon. Fire anything at them. Just be sure to watch out for the pearls that it spits at you. They will turn bright-coloured, this is your chance to fire a homing torpedo at one of them. Then, repeat with the other. After both of them are destroyed, then the top will fall off, revealing the eye. Fire at it's outer shell until it flies off. Then, fire a homing torpedo at the eye. This will start to hurt it. Again, repeat. Wow, it died. I'm so happy for you! Let's have a party with... [muffled voice] [muffled screaming] [silence] -7.12- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Z O N E S S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Boss: Sarumarine----------------------------------------------------- The Sarumarine is a Submarine that is inferior to the Blue-Marine but that doesn't matter because your flying the Arwing, hee, hee! Any-hoo, (I know, I know... I'll stop saying it... maybe) the Sarumarine will _swim_ past you and attack you with it's ball thingy. Swerve to avoid (as with EVERY OTHER ATTACK IN THIS GAME!!! Phew...). Any ways (I didn't say any-hoo... [multiple gunshots]) fire bombs at it's smoke-stacks. Don't worry if your supply is limited; Sarumarine will fire pearls at you with bombs inside. Shoot the peals to uncover the bombs. Any-hoo, ([multiple gunshots] [gun clicking]) after the smoke-stacks have fallen off, shoot the sides. They will fall off. Then this... thing will send out the crane. Fire bombs at the crane and it will fall of too. The last side must be bombed and then attack it with whatever you've got. Bombs, lasers, what have you. (dryly) It died. I'm so happy. Any-hoo... Whoa! -7.14- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A R E A 6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Boss: Gorgon--------------------------------------------------------- A _hard_ boss... finally! When was there a four star boss before? Never! Hmm... very interesting Dr. Kratt (hee, hee). What? It's the Saucerer! Oh, no... it's just Gorgon. Kill it! Kill it! Kill it! Kill it! Kill it! Okay, that seems a little harsh... let's blow it up! Well you'll be faced with Gorgon's 'open' stage. Shoot the red energy balls. He will lose a little bit of life. Now the tentacles will appear; shoot them frantically. At best, you'll get two before he disappears, but now, aim for one. It will blow off and he'll disappear. Now, destroy the other two in the same fashion. Then he'll send out two waves of fighters. They're easy-peasy. Now he 'opens up to you'. Shoot the three, red energy balls and he'll turn red. Now the tentacles will appear; shoot them frantically. At best, you'll get two before he disappears, but now, aim for one. It will blow off and he'll disappear. Now, destroy the other two in the same fashion. Now it's time for... the... energy beam! If Falco is present wait for when he says, "look out Fox!" Then wait in the lower-left corner. If he isn't there, you'll have to choose by your own judgment. Then destroy the energy balls and shoot the core with everything. There you go, off to Venom 2... heh... heh... heh... -7.15- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ V E N O M 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Boss: Golmech-------------------------------------------------------- Golmech is probably just part of an ancient civilization, but it is a weapon of destruction. Golmech is sort of difficult. You need to shoot it's body parts, avoiding the booby-traps it sets for you. Then, shoot the head. Pretty soon, you'll be done. Also; the booby-traps it sets for you are only walls attacking you. ---Boss: Andross' Robot------------------------------------------------- This Andross is only a robot. Therefore, it is easy. Any-hoo, (...) shoot his hands. They will blow up. If he tries to suck you up, fire a bomb. Also, if he tries to swipe you, go up or down. Then, shoot his eyes. This will blow off his face, revealing the robot inside. Shoot it with bombs or lasers. Well, that was... straightforward. It's finally over! Andross is just a robot... but who's that laughing... hmm... -7.16- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ V E N O M 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Boss: The Disfigured Star Wolf Team---------------------------------- The oh, so disfigured Star Wolf Team! If you enter this from Fortuna, this makes sense because you blew them up and they needed surgery, but if you take a different route, they are still disfigured. Hmm... This is a HARD boss for beginners. You _need_ hyper lasers for this. Even I need hypers for this... but... uh... forget that! Shoot them as fast as you can; no bombs, no lock-on lasers (aww...). I know you will probably die 7-9 times. So don't feel bad if you do. Any-hoo, (if you shoot me, I won't give you-- [gunshot] this-- [gunshot] candy... ohh... [multiple gunshots]) if you see bullets flying past you, pull a loop and Wolf will fly past you. Pump him full of plasma! Hee, hee, hee! Shoot all of them. If your wingmen ask for help; give it to them. Their attackers will attack you if their not there. Well... there gone! Now, you're, "Goin' it alone from here." ---Boss: Andross' Real Self--------------------------------------------- Andross is very simple compared to the Star Wolf Team; and I know a path that'll load you up. It is in a diagram: <-- --> <-- <-- --> --> Note that you can take any route to Andross. Go to Andross and shoot his hands. They will blow up. If he tries to suck you up, fire a bomb. Also, if he tries to swipe you, go up or down. Then, shoot his eyes. This will blow off his face, revealing the brain inside. Then, his eyeballs come out. Boost over the left side of the brain, and then you can start to shoot the eyes. After they've gone, you can focus on the brain. Shoot the green medulla and he'll die after a while. Just watch out for the 'poop' that he 'eliminates' and the fact that he chews you if you get _too close_. If he decides to disappear, then pull a loop. He's dead! He just won't go alone... aaaahhhhh!!! -7.17- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ T H E E N D ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Your Father?! Oh... my... god... he's alive! He's leading you out of here! Yippeeeee!!! After the beginning, use the boost and follow your father. It's almost over... [ship engine quietly zipping] [loud explosion] [happy music] Yay! You did it! You read my boss FAQ without dying! And you beat the game! YAY!!! Yippee! Don't ever give up my son... {SPOILER -- CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK} You turn down General Pepper's offer and start to run. ??? It confused me, too. Well, at least you beat the game, now enter your initials. Oh, yeah; if you die after all my 'great help' then you're hopeless. ___ ___ 6 4 -8- ==/ __|| _|============================================================ \__ \| _| S E C R E T S ==|___/|_|============================================================== Compared to most games, Star Fox 64 has plenty of secrets... well, not really. -8.01- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ E X T R A A R W I N G S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---In Corneria---------------------------------------------------------- In Corneria, you can get the extra Arwing by flying through Granga's legs, and pulling a loop without hitting him. Sounds easy... but try it... hee, hee! ---In Sector Y---------------------------------------------------------- In Sector Y, you can get the extra Arwing when your teammates form a triangle. Boost up to make it a diamond, and the Arwing is yours! [maniacal laughter] ---In Venom------------------------------------------------------------- You MUST be in route #2. Once you beat the Star Wolf Team, turn in this fashion: --> <-- I guess I could have said go right, then left, but that's no fun. -8.02- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ G L I T C H E S A N D F U N N Y T H I N G S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Slow Slippy---------------------------------------------------------- If you watch the ending VERY closely, you'll see that Slippy is slower than the rest and it falls behind! ---Asteroid Hologram---------------------------------------------------- At the opening scene of Meteo, the Great Fox comes in, firing at all the asteroids and missing two. The first, which you can plainly see, blows up on the outer wing. The other, on the other side which is harder to see, flies THROUGH the left wing! Wow! ---Talk More, Pepper!--------------------------------------------------- If you go into Training and turn off the aiming sight (Pause and press R), quit the training and press B. This brings you to the title screen. Wait, while not pressing anything, and the opening cut-scene should restart. General Pepper doesn't talk as much! Finally we don't have to listen to most of his belly-aching! ---Infinite Point Match------------------------------------------------- To extend a Point Match as long as you like, first begin a three-player, five-point match. The trick is to have one player rack up four wins and then defeat the other two players simultaneously. If the two players are defeated at the exact same moment, the win counter will jump to six points, going past the normal limit of five points. The match will continue until you reset the game. This trick works best if the two "target" players are characters, not tanks or Arwings. -8.03- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ M E D A L S ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---Medal List----------------------------------------------------------- To get a medal, you must keep all of your wingmen alive and get a certain amount of points for the level you are on. I knew you wouldn't care. Any-hoo, you get it by getting all the medals from Main Game. Then little arrows will appear on the Main Game 'selector'. Press left or right on the Control Stick to get to Expert Mode. BRIEF EXPLANATION: Expert mode is for experts -- enemies will increase, items will decrease, and if you run into ONE thing your wings will fall off. ---Expert Training------------------------------------------------------ If you get Expert Mode, (see above) switch to it, and select Training, it will be harder. Whoo. How interesting. ---Sound Test----------------------------------------------------------- If you get all the medals in Main Game, there will be little arrows on the sides of the Sound 'selector'. Press left or right on the Control Stick and it will say Expert. Pick it for a sound test. Press C-Down to change the display. ---More VS.
