---------< 3.1 The Plot >--------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure if this is the GameBoy version of the story, or if it's word-for
-word correct, because I lost my MKII instruction manual. But here it is:

500 years ago, the shapeshifter Shang Tsung was banished from the
Outworld to the Mother Realm (Earth) for his crimes. There with the aid of
his pupil Goro, a hideous half-human dragon, he was to atone for his crimes
by unbalancing the furies of the realm, allowing his master Shao Kahn and his
minions to enter the dominion and rule forever.
      He was defeated.
He returned to the Outworld a failure, facing execution at the hands of
Shao Kahn, supreme ruler of the Outworld, the Astral Planes of Shokan and the
surrounding kingdoms. With the apparent demise of Goro, his fate seemed
sealed. But Tsung told Kahn of his plan for revenge, a plot so evil and
twisted even Kahn was persuaded to grant him one final opportunity to redeem
himself. He cleverly lured his adversaries to the bizarre Outworld where they
would face a new challenge - a tournament by Shao Kahn himself.
      Today, The Tournament Begins... Again!

---------< 3.2 Character Backgrounds >-------------------------------------

All the Character Backgrounds were taken from the MK1&II instruction manual.
If any are slightly different in the MKII manual, please notify me.

- Liu Kang
After winning back the Shaolin Tournament from Shang Tsung's twisted
clutches and returning him to the Outworld in disgrace, Liu Kang
returned to his temples. He discovered his sacred home in ruins, his
Shaolin brothers lost in a vicious battle with a horde of Outworld
warrior, a parting salvo from Tsung and his minions. Now he travels
into the dark realm to seek revenge...

- Sub-Zero
Thought to have been vanquished in the Shaolin Tournament, Sub-Zero
mysteriously returns. It is believed this secretive member of the Lin
Kuei, a legendary clan of Chinese 'ninjas' has traveled into the
Outworld to again attempt an assassination of Shang Tsung. To do so, he
must fight his way through Shao Kahn's tournament.

- Kitana
Kitana's beauty hides her savage role as a personal assassin for Shao
Kahn. Seen talking to an Earth realm warrior, her motives have come
under suspicion by her twin sister Mileena, but, only Kitana knows her
      true intentions.

- Reptile
Shang Tsung's personal protector, Reptile lurks in the shadows stopping
all those who would do his master harm. His human form is believed to
disguise a horrific reptilian creature whose race was thought extinct
millions of years ago. He enters the contest hoping to defeat all and
      protect his master.

- Jax
Major Jackson Briggs, was leader of the U.S. Special Forces unit of
which Lt. Sonya Blade was a member. After receiving a signal from Lt.
Blade, Jax embarks on a rescue mission, hoping to retrieve both Sonya
and the elusive Kano, wanted criminal and leader of the Black Dragon
organization. Sonya's trail leads him into the ghastly Outworld, where
he believes both Sonya and Kano to be help prisoner.

- Mileena
Serving as an assassin along with her twin sister Kitana, Mileena's
dazzling appearance conceals her hideous intentions. At Shao Kahn's
request, she is asked to watch for her twin's suspected dissension and
must put a stop to it at any cost.

- Scorpion
This reincarnated specter is back after learning of Sub-Zero's return.
He again stalks the ninja warrior, following him into the dark realm of
the Outworld where he continues his personal mission - to avenge the
loss of his family at the hands of the Lin Kuei clan.

- Shang Tsung
After losing control of the Shaolin Tournament and returning to the
Outworld in disgrace, the shapeshifter Shang Tsung promised his ruler,
Shao Kahn, that he could still unbalance the furies and allow Kahn to
take over the Earth. His plan was to lure the Earth warriors to compete
in the Outworld, and then, win or lose, never to let them return.
Convinced of this plan, Shao Kahn restored Tsung's youth.

- Smoke
      <none>

- Jade
      <none>

- Shao Kahn
The supreme ruler of the Outworld, Shao Kahn governs the Astral Planes
of Shaokan and all surrounding kingdoms. Five hundred years ago he
banished the shapeshifter Shang Tsung into the Mother Realm (Earth) to
pay for his crimes. Shang Tsung was ordered to unbalance the furies and
create a weakness in Earth's dimensional gates. This weakness in the
gates would allow Kahn and his minions to forever walk the Earth and
plague its inhabitants to a dark and chaotic existence. Only then would
Shang Tsung be cleared of his offense and the curse be lifted.

- Fatalities
On the Game Boy, Fatalities can be performed anywhere, except
Reptile's. His cannot be performed close to the opponent.

- Babalities
To perform Babalities, you cannot press Punch in the final round. If
you do, you won't be able to perform it.

- Stage Fatalities
The Stage Fatality can only be performed on the Kombat Tomb stage.

- Two-player Mode
To play the two-player mode, hook up two machines and get both to the
'MKII' title screen for it to register. Whoever gets to the title
      screen first is player 1.

- Three Difficulty Levels
After the 'MKII' title screen you have a choice of 'Start Game' or
'Options'. Select 'Options' and press left and right on 'Difficulty' to
change the difficulty level. There are only three difficulty levels:
      Easy, Medium, and Hard

- Easier Execution
In order to perform some of the more difficult moves, you can hold down
the Block button while keying in on the move. This will prevent the
character from moving or jumping during the keying in. Let go of the
Block button as the last button in the sequence is released.

===============<  2. How to Fight  >=========================================

All damage %'s are approximate. I got the %'s from using a move until one
more High Punch would kill the opponent. It takes 21 High Punches to win by
just using High Punches, so 100/21 = 4.7619. Then I subtracted 4.7619 from
100 and divided by how many times I used the special move. If I got a
decimal, then I rounded to the closest tenth. In a case where a move added up
to 100% exactly, I didn't need to use the step above.

D-pad : Moves fighter
Select : Pause
Start : Block
B button : Punch
A button : Kick

Rotating D-pad : Roll your thumb on the controller with one steady continuous
motion. Don't release your thumb from the D-pad while rotating!

+ : Push buttons before and after this at THE SAME TIME EXACTLY. If there is
not a + then wait about half a second. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

High Punch : 4.8% - B button
High Kick : 19.0% - A button
Roundhouse : 19.0% - Forward + A button
Sweep : 11.1% - Back + A button
Uppercut : 23.8% - Down + B button
Push Kick : 4.8% - Down + A button
Jump Punch : 9.5% - Up + B button
Jump Kick : 15.9% - Up + A button
Throws : Forward + B button (near opponent)
   Reptile : 20.0%
   Jax : 19.0%
   Jade : 19.0%
   Kitana : 19.0%
   Liu Kang : 19.0%
   Mileena : 19.0%
   Scorpion : 19.0%
   Smoke : 19.0%
   Sub-Zero : 19.0%
   ShangTsung: 15.9%

note: The Low Punch, Low Kick, Juggle Punch, and Pop Kick were taken out
of the Game Boy version of Mortal Kombat II.

===============<  1. Miscellaneous  >========================================

- Reset
Select + Start + B + A. It resets like most Game Boy games, but if you
have enabled Smoke, Smoke will still be there.

- Extra Credits
After the 'MKII' title screen you have a choice of 'Start Game' or
'Options'. Select 'Options' and press left and right on 'Credits' to
      change your credits.

- Fight Smoke
On any stage, if Dan Forden come up from the right hand corner, press
Down + Start really fast. If your timing was right, than you will be
transported to Goro's Lair. Smoke has the same moves as Scorpion, but
is faster. Five well-placed roundhouses will easily bring him down,
even on hard! Losing to Smoke does not waste a life.

- Fight Jade
On the round before the question mark, win two times only using the
Kick button. If you can complete it, you will be transported to Goro's
Lair. Jade is immune to any projectile, even Sub-Zero's Ground Freeze
and Kitana's Fan Lift. She has the same moves as Kitana but is faster.
Losing to Jade does not waste a life, thank GOD! Oh ya, I'm atheist.

===============<  5. Glitches  >=============================================

The following are all Fatality Glitches.

- Scorpion
Jump over your opponent and do his Fatality after passing them in the
air. He will stand up in mid air with his mask off and fall to the
ground. Then he'll blow the fire in the opposite direction that your
opponent is. Although it just touches the ground, your opponent still
      catches on fire and explodes.

- Jax
      1. Hold Kick, Forward, Forward, Forward, Up, release Kick. He will walk
up and knock of multiple heads.

      2. Do the Fatality, but hold the Kick button and do his Gotcha Grab.
After it hits, release Kick. Both players will perform their
Fatalities and here is what happens:

Liu Kang : Jax will crush his head just as he is transforming.
Sub-Zero : He will freeze you before you can do anything.
Kitana : Most of the time, he will crush her head just as she tries
                  to cut your head off.
Reptile : Jax will crush his head just as he removes his mask.
Mileena : She will do her Fatality, then fall over dead.
Scorpion : Jax will crush his head just as he removes his mask.
Jax : Either you get him or he gets you.
ShangTsung: He will grab you first and the game freezes.
Smoke : It will crash the game.
Jade : It will crash the game.

- Shang Tsung
Do his Fatality, then as quickly as you can, start doing his Stage
Fatality. He should do his Soul Sucker, then let go of the crippled
opponent and just stand there. Your opponent's body will stay in the
air just as it was when you were holding them. The game freezes.

        -< Kintaro lives?...

The following were in the HEX codes:

  "...SCORPION WINS...JAX WINS...KINTARO WINS...SHAO KAHN WINS...SMOKE
WINS...JADE WINS..."

Now is it just me or is that Kintaro's name I see? While his name got
programmed in, I don't know about his sprites. I hope somebody will take a
GameShark and try to find a code to get him.

        -< Changes in GameBoy version

- Lost Fighters
Bararka, Johnny Cage, Kano, Kung Lao, Sonya, Kintaro, and Noob Saibot.

- Modified Moves
Kitana: Doesn't have 'wave' animation in her Fan Lift
      Scorpion: Doesn't have Leg takedown
      Shao Kahn: Doesn't have taunts

- Lost Stages
You only get to fight in three stages on the GameBoy version. They are:
The Kombat Tomb, Pit II, and the secret stage; Goro's Lair. It seems
strange why they would include the Pit II if you cant knock them off
it. But in MK3 they included every stage fatality stage, but you
couldn't even do a freaken stage fatality.

Paul Courtney (me): I tried to compile everything I knew and could find for
the Ultimate MKII FAQ. I found all the damage %'s, documented the
variables for the time modifier code, and found all the strategies.
The ASCII art is also by me.

Justin (serpent3@hotmail.com): Found out how to make the GameShark codes to
play as Smoke and Jade work. And I used some of the GameGenie codes
      from his site. http://zap.to/mkgb

John Evens (SStarmie): Found the roundhouse trick against Smoke. And I used
the Jax Glitch #2 from his site.
