...THE OFFICIAL SUPER FIGHTER F.A.Q. (v2.0)... .Written by DEATH ADDER (death-adder@juno.com). Last updated on Dec.29, 1999 This FAQ can ALWAYS be found at The Unofficial Super Fighter Website: http://www.superfighter.com/ or http://dfg.theunderdogs.org/sfsite/english/ In case you are wondering, FAQ stands for: "Frequently Asked Questions". FAQ's therefore are usually comprised of those questions, and the best answers the author of them can come up with. Sometimes, however, the term FAQ is used incorrectly... but that's a different story altogether. So for now, let's just focus on this FAQ, and what knowledge of Super Fighter it has to offer. INDEX ----- PART 1: What is Super Fighter and where can I get a copy of it? PART 2: What are the system requirements needed to play the game? PART 3: How do I play the game, and what are the special moves? PART 4: Are there any known glitches in the game? PART 5: Have there been any other Super Fighter games made? PART 6: Credits ----- PART 1: What is Super Fighter and where can I get a copy of it? --------------------------------------------------------------- Super Fighter is a beat'em up style fighting game for one or two players made in 1993 by a company named C&E Inc. The object of the game was to select one of eight skilled fighters to try and defeat the evil fiend named Widow, who is a cold-blooded killer. The full game (as well as a demo) can be downloaded from the Unofficial Super Fighter Website, located at - http://superfighter.cjb.net (alternate url - http://members.tripod.com/~super_fighter/). PART 2: What are the system requirements needed to play the game? ----------------------------------------------------------------- The basic system requirements needed to play Super Fighter are: 386 processor 2mb memory VGA graphics card and monitor MS-DOS v5.0 The recommended system requirements are: 386 processor 4mb memory VGA graphics card and monitor 8-bit soundblaster card MS-DOS v5.0 Since there was no speed protection check built into the game, you will need to have a program called "MOSLO" to slow down the game on a 486 or higher (the copy of the game on the Unofficial Super Fighter Website comes with MOSLO already setup for speed control). Running Super Fighter under Windows 95: Your best bet is to restart in MS-DOS mode, unless you don't want soundblaster sound/music, because Windows 95 will not allow Super Fighter to use its built-in sound drivers. Memory problems: The best way to solve any memory problems you may have is to download and install a copy of the QEMM memory manager (version 7.0 of QEMM is downloadable from the Unofficial Super Fighter Website) or QEMM98 if you are using Windows 95/98. The game's memory detection acts strange with newer computers. On a 386, however, it seems to work fine (if Windows is not installed). PART 3: How do I play the game, and what are the special moves? --------------------------------------------------------------- Using the keyboard: Q W E \ | / Punch: Left Alt A - - D Kick: Left Shift / | \ Z X C - OR - 7 8 9 \ | / Punch: Enter 4 - - 6 Kick: Right Shift / | \ 1 2 3 Or by either joystick. Keysets/joystick for input may be changed in the setup menu, which is the third option on the main menu. The main menu's options are as follows: First selection: Start a one-player game Second selection: Start a two-player game Third selection: Setup options Fourth selection: Exit to DOS (or Windows) The last option in the setup options menu is the "OK" button, and the three before it are the difficulty settings. Below is a listing of the special moves for each character. Keep in mind that this list may not be complete. Each glitch I have seen the game perform is documented below. If you have seen one which is not listed, please e-mail me explaining it. I have given each of the glitches a name based on what they do. That should help (along with their description) to fully explain them. (Note that these glitches were seen under the cracked & boss-play altered version 2.0 of the game; therefore, they may not happen under different versions). GLITCH #1: "The anti-ending campaign" You'll notice that if, when selecting a character, when you scroll through them using left instead of right, the game only scrolls through the last 6 characters (Onimalu, Lan, King Tai Chi, and the three bosses Widow, Joker, and Indian Joe). When you are playing in one player mode, the computer will sometimes use this selection method. If it does this when each of the last six characters have already been defeated, you'll be stuck. Occurance: All too often; if you get frustrated trying to beat the game to see all of the character endings, visit the Unofficial Super Fighter Website's character endings section. GLITCH #2: "The Indian Joe marathon" Sometimes the game will continue to select the boss character Indian Joe indefinately. There is no way to get past this one, so if it happens to you, reboot and try again. Occurance: Very uncommon. In fact, since playing the game starting in 1993, I've only had this happen to me about four times total. GLITCH #3: "Two-player selection ghost" As if a ghost were controlling the player selection, both players (or was it only the second player?) are chosen by the computer. During the fight, they are partially controlled by the computer, until the system eventually crashes altogether. Occurance: Extremely uncommon. I believe that this only happened to me twice, and it might have been because I was running the game on a system that was barely meeting the game's system requirements. GLITCH #4: "The Sarorkov sampler" In one-player mode (and possibly two-player mode as well), the computer automatically choses Sarorkov for you. The only way to overcome this is to lose both rounds and get back to the selection screen. Occurance: Common. It can be annoying, but it isn't really that much of a problem. It comes in handy when facing Indian Joe, since Sarorkov is the best person to use versus him in my opinion. GLITCH #5: "The case of the missing endings" Whenever you beat the game using either of the (Widow, Joker, or Indian Joe), King Tai Chi's ending is displayed. The reason is because the bosses were originally written out of the player select screen, except for use bu the computer. Therefore, there were not any endings created for them. Too bad C&E INC. didn't think ahead and make some hidden endings for them. :-) Occurance: Not applicable. PART 5: Have there been any other Super Fighter games made? ----------------------------------------------------------- This is something I have been researching for years now. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a website, e-mail address, or snail mail address for C&E INC. Neither have I been able to find any information on them, or any of their games. I've also had several people search for games or information on C&E INC. in various countries in Asia (including China, of course), but none of them have been able to locate anything. So, for right now, there are no known Super Fighter games besides the original. If you have ANY information on C&E INC. or any of their games (including Super Fighter, of course), please send it via e-mail to: death-adder@juno.com PART 6: Credits --------------- Here is a list of the people I'd like to thank for helping me collect the information needed to compile this FAQ. If I've forgotten anyone, I apologize, and hope they don't get too angry with me. - C&E INC. - Of course, for creating Super Fighter in the first place. Now if only I could locate them... - CSDN [CHINESE SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK] - For doing a great job of cracking, boss-incorporating, and distributing Super Fighter all the way to the US from China way back in 1993. Kudos to you, wherever you are... - TRIO SOFTWARE GROUP - Hailing from Singapore, this group also distributed Super Fighter. Thanks, guys... - LAR GAND - Offered to have his girlfriend translate various Super Fighter resources for me from Chinese into English. She did a wonderful job, and the information has aided me greatly. - QUTE G - Offered to (and did) translate the character endings. Did a wonderful job of it too, and the English text of the endings can now be found on the Unofficial Super Fighter Website. - MARCO NADAL - Provided the special move list. I couldn't figure them all out by myself, so his submission of a basically complete list was a large help. - VARIOUS PEOPLE - Searching for a possible sequel to Super Fighter at stores in various parts of Asia, as well as on the internet. Also for searching for the documentation for Super Fighter. - JUNO FREE E-MAIL SERVICE - Provided my e-mail account, which comes in handy for the people who need to report news for this FAQ to me [as well as other things, of course]. --- That's all, folks!
