===============<  3. Stories  >==============================================

---------< 3.1 The Plot >--------------------------------------------------

For centuries Earth has used Mortal Kombat to defend itself against the
Outworld's Emperor, Shao Kahn. But Kahn grows frustrated by the failed
attempts to take Earth through Tournament battle. He enacts a plan which
began 10,000 years ago.

During that time Shao Kahn had a Queen. Her name was Sindel, and her early
death was unexpected. Kahn's shadow priests, led by Shang Tsung, made it so
Sindel's spirit would someday be reborn: not on the Outworld, but on the
Earth Realm itself. This unholy act gives Shao Kahn the power to step through
the dimensional gates and reclaim his Queen, thus enabling him to finally
seize the Earth Realm. Upon breaching the portal into Earth, Shao Kahn slowly
transforms the planet into a part of the Outworld. He strips the Earth of all
human life: claiming every soul as his own. But there are souls which Kahn
cannot take. These souls belong to the Warriors chosen to represent Earth in
a new Mortal Kombat. The remaining humans are scattered throughout the
planet. Shao Kahn sends and army of fierce Outworld Warriors to find and
eliminate them. Some of Earth's Warriors survive the attacks. Most do not,
but the remaining few hold the one chance at saving all of human kind...

---------< 3.2 Character Backgrounds >-------------------------------------

- Kano
Kano is thought to have been killed in the first Tournament. Instead,
he's found alive in the Outworld where he once again escapes capture by
Sonya. Before the actual Outworld invasion, Kano convinces Shao Kahn to
spare his soul. Kahn needs someone to teach his Warriors how to use
Earth's weapons. And Kano is the man to do it.

- Sonya
Sonya Blade disappears in the first Tournament, but is later rescued
from the Outworld by Jax. After returning to earth, she and Jax try to
warn the U.S. Government of the looming Outworld menace. Lacking proof,
they watch helplessly as Shao Kahn begins his invasion.

- Sektor
Sektor is actually the code name for Unit LK-9T9. He was the first of
three prototype Cybernetic Ninjas built by the Lin Kuei. Sektor was
once a human assassin trained by the Lin Kuei. He volunteered for
automation because of his loyalty to the Clan. Sektor survives the
Outworld invasion... he has no soul to take.

- Sindel
She once ruled the Outworld at SHao Kahn's side as his Queen. Now,
10,000 years after her untimely death, she is reborn on Earth. Her evil
intent is every match for Shao Kahn's tyranny. She is the key to his
      occupation of Earth.

- Sub-Zero
The Ninja returns unmasked. He was betrayed by his own Ninja clan, the
Lin Kuei. He broke sacred Codes of Honor by leaving the Clan and is
marked for death. But unlike the Ninja of old, his pursuers come as
machines. He must not only defend against the Outworld menace, but must
      also elude his soulless assassins.

- Sheeva
She was hand-picked by Shao Kahn to serve as Sindel's personal
protector. However, she becomes suspicious of Shao Kahn's loyalty
towards her race of Shaokan when he places Motaro as the leader of his
extermination squads. On the Outwrold, Motaro's race of Centaurians are
the natural enemy of the Shokan.

- Cyrax
Cyrax is Unit LK4D4, the second of three prototype Cybernetic Ninjas
built by the Lin Kuei. Like his counterparts, Cyrax's last programmed
command is to find and terminate the rogue Ninja Sub-Zero. Without a
soul, Cyrax goes undetected by Shao Kahn and remains a possible threat
      against his occupation of Earth.

- Kabal
As a Chosen Warrior, his identity is a mystery to all. It's believed
that he is the survivor of an attack by Shao Kahn's extermination
squads. As a result, he is viciously scarred and kept alive only by
artificial respirators and a rage for ending Shao Kahn's conquest.

- Smoke
Third of the three prototype Cybernetic Ninjas, Smoke's unit designator
was erased in a computer crash. Lost as he is to software control, no
one can be sure that he will complete his ultimate programming, i.e.,
kill Sub-Zero. So, he is somewhat of a wild card in the Tournament deck

- Shao Kahn
Many decades ago, Shao Kahn rose to power in the Outworld, usurping the
realm from Kitana's parents and taking Queen Sindel for his bride. But
she died. Now, centuries later, Sindel is reborn, And since Shang Tsung
failed to win the Earth Realm through Mortal Kombat 1 and II, her
rebirth is the means by which Kahn will finally seize the planet
      forever unless...

- On the Game Boy version; Fatalities can be performed anywhere, except
Kabal's and Smoke's. Kabal's is performed in close range. Smoke's cannot be
performed at the very back of the screen.

- Some of the moves are hard to perform and require you to do them over and
over again fast to perform them. These are: Sonya's Leg Throw, Bicycle
Kick, Sub-Zero's Slide, and Cyrax's Air Throw.

- To perform Babalities, you cannot press Punch in the final round. If you
do, you won't be able to perform it

- If you can't execute a move, you are probably not ROTATING the D-pad, or
are not pressing buttons at the same time when theres a "+" sign

control them and suffers a violent death."

      Earth returns to normal."

"Smoke had been captured and turned into a cyborg with a mission to
kill his old ally Sub-Zero. But Smoke learns he still has a soul and
recalls his true mission. He defeats Shao Kahn and saves the world, but
is trapped in his synthetic body."

- Shao Kahn
<If you win with Shao Kahn, you get Kabal's ending without text>

Select + Start + B + A. It resets like most Game Boy games, but if you
have enabled Smoke, he will still be there.

- Random Select
At the Character Select Screen, highlight Sindel and press Up + Start.
The game will then randomly select a character for you. It won't ever
      pick Smoke.

- Extra Credits
At the Choose Your Destiny (CYD) press Up to increase your Credits,
Down to decrease. Credits go from 1-5.

note: If you try to fight someone who's not on the tower you selected, the
      game will crash.

===============<  4. Glitches  >=============================================

- Extended Fatality Time
To extend your Fatality time, use a move that catches, freezes, or
stuns opponents, before the time expires. As long as you keep catching
them before the time runs out, the Fatality time will last forever.

- Cyrax's Fatality
When its time to finish your opponent, throw a Short Bomb at your
opponent and IMMEDIATELY do your Fatality. If it connects, you with
shred them, but the game keeps going. You can then jump around, and
practice your moves as long as you don't hit the shreds. You can also
end it by doing a Babality that counts as a Fatality!

- Walk On Bottom Of Screen
When playing as Sektor or Smoke, if your opponent throws a projectile
at you, quickly do your Teleport Uppercut. If you connect with the
projectile when you are touching the bottom of the screen, you will be
knocked out of it and will be walking on the bottom of the screen! Just
jump to come back up to the stage.

- Fatality Shao Kahn
Use a GameShark to play as Shao Khan. Next, you might want to disable
the throws to make it easier. (If you don't and you get thrown, the
game freezes) Now just lose to an opponent and if you are lucky, they
will do their fatality on you!! Look out though, sometimes it doesn't
      work and the game freezes.

- Mercy?
When it's time to finish your opponent, do Sindel's Scream twice to
      bring them back to life.

- Stuck In Midair
While either playing as or mimicking Sindel, while in the air (falling
or jumping), perform her Float to get stuck.

- Off The Screen
To get of the screen, there's two things you can do:
      1. Do Sindel's Float, then keep flying against the edge of the screen.
      2. With Shao Kahn, keep jumping back until you make it.

|_\/_|_|\_\=========================================================|_||_||_|

===============<  1. Friendships & Mercies  >================================

The following were in the Hex codes:
"DRAW.. WINS.. WINS.GAME OVER.FLAWLESS VICTORY.FATALITY.OUT OF TIME. FINISH
HIM.FINISH HER.FRIENDSHIP.BABALITY.MERCY." This is some of the text that was
programmed in the game. Just because it can display 'Friendship' doesn't
mean that the sprites were also programmed in. But Mercys don't need extra
sprites, so thats another story...

- Mercies
On GameGenie enter: 124-C2A-E6E DCA-C5E-456 A7E-6DD-C4B. Every time
you throw a projectile (fireball, or iceball, or whatever), it starts
the round over again, but everyone has the same amount of life left.
You have to do this at least 2 times each round. You have to play for 3
rounds (but sometimes only once) and not press Block. When it says
finish Him/Her throw another projectile and hit your opponent twice
more to kill them. If you did it correctly it should say " *Fighters
name* won", "Mercy" Then your opponent comes back to life. (This
      doesn't work on Sonya.)

- Friendships
One time I was fooling around with my GameGenie and found the code to
activate friendships. But I accidentally took out the cartridge! All
it did was say friendship when I won. I think they took out the
animations, or didn't do them at all.

===============<  2. Shao Kahn's Finishers  >================================

Apparently in an early version of the game, Shao Kahn had finishing moves. If
you do his Fatality, nothing happens, but if you do his Babality, he'll do a
stance the looks like his fireball animation in the arcade. If the Fatality
doesn't do anything, then how do I even know it's there? Well, if you use my
'mimic' GameShark code, and mimic Shao Kahn's moves, then his finishing move
controls work. Why he does that frame of animation for his Babality, I don't
know. If someone could figure it out, I would be very grateful.

===============<  3. Changes in GameBoy version  >===========================

- Lost Fighters
Jax, Kung Lao, Stryker, Liu Kang, Nightwolf, Shang Tsung, Motaro and
      Noob Saibot.

- Modified Moves
Kano: Doesn't have Grab and Shake
Sindel: She does have her Air Fireball...*
      Sub-Zero: Doesn't have Ice Clone
Kabal: Can't shoot Fireball in air
Smoke: Doesn't have Spear anymore (no info about Air Throw)
Shao Kahn: Doesn't have Shoulder Charge, only the Nee Charge, got
Motaro's Lift and Smack, and is NOT playable in the GameBoy
version unless you use a GameShark or maybe GameGenie.
*In MK4 (GBC), if you use a GameShark and use my 'mimic' code, then
mimic Raiden and do his Torpedo controls, the character will do
Sindel's Air Fireball! Since MK4 is just a hack of MK3, that's proof
that Sindel does have an Air Fireball! I also performed it once.

- Stages w/ Fighters
The Pit : Kano & Sheeva
The Bridge : Sonya & Kabal
The Subway : Sektor & Cyrax
  The Temple : Sindel
The Bell Tower: Shao Kahn & Sub-Zero

Every other move not confirmed is probably not in there, but there's
still a chance. Things like Cyrax's Teleport have been confirmed by seeing
the game perform it, but then, the game never does Sindels Float, but it's
still in there. Mortal Kombat 3 for GameBoy also probably does not have any
sort of stage Fatality like MKII. It also doesn't have Mercies, Friendships,
or Animalities unless you find the mercy or friendship codes with GameGenie
or GameShark. I've been told that sometimes the fighters come back to
life... mercy?? Um, and if you want this game; only buy MKII; 1, 3 and 4
suck HARD!.. well, if you get bored of MKII, 3 is second best.

- Paul Courtney (PaulKortne@yahoo.com)
I found nearly everything in this FAQ. That includes the Cyrax glitch,
the code for Mercys, the Friendship thing, Shao Kahn's moves, the
GameShark mimic code and more!! I tried to include everything I knew
and could find. I also know a lot about emulation, that sort of helps
to find secrets. The ASCII art is also by me.

- Justin (serpent3@hotmail.com)
Found Shao Kahn's finishers and Sub-Zero's Close and Far Ice Showers.
