1---Introduction------------------------------------------------
Yes, this is the sequel to Star Ocean the Second Story. The game isn't
old or anything, but the chances are... you won't play this game in
English. The game is large for a gameboy color and like most Tri-ace
games for small systems they are all pushed to the limit. The game has
great graphics and music. It might get repetitive after a while, but
it's good for the time.
----------------------------------------------------------------

2---Version updates--------------------------------------------

V 0.1 12/8/01- start of this faq. Added most information and I think
all the skills for knowledge. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
---------------------------------------------------------------

3---controls-------------------------------------------------

-Basic controls
On field (dungeon, world map, and towns)
A = attack/action/talk
B = use field action/cancel
Enter = menu
Select = switch between characters
Select + B + up or down = switch between field action

In battle
A = attack
B + direction button = use tech assigned to that
Down = defend
Enter = Menu(switch between techs, item, bomb)
Shift = switch character

-Battle system
The battle system is much different from the last star ocean game. Your
characters are on the right side while the enemy is on the left. Your
guys must be on the right side or they will run backwards to the right
side. Battles are played 3 on 1. There is one enemy who varies on techs
depending on class and your allies who fight them.

-Skill system
You don't exp after battle, but you get skill points. Then in the
status screen, you spend them on various skills that have star boosts.
The star boost range from 1~4 stars that level up Hp, Mp, Str, Con,
Dex, Agi, Int, Res, and guts. The skills can boost from 1~20 depending
on star levels.

4-Characters--------------------------------------------
Note~ Spec is the order I think characters specialize in.
Precis F. Nueman
The main character and the very hyper active girl genius, Precis is
supposedly the comic relief of the game. She now fights in a robot
called mujin (reminds me of Tenchi Muyo for some reason). An okay
fighter and hard to combo, she is very good at item creation.
Starting stats: Hp 40, Mp 40, str 6, Con 9, dex 10, agi 5, int 7, res
3, Gut 10 techs: mole
Field actions: hover, winch, push/pull, swim, bomb, and jump.
Spec: wrench, sword, book, then hand

Dias Flac
The lone wolf of Star Ocean, Dias is my favorite character. He is a
master swordsman and an introvert because of his past. He fights with a
sword and can combo quite well. Okay at item creation and techs. IMO He
is strongest fighter in the game.
Starting stats: Hp 60, Mp 20, str 10, con 6, dex 7, agi 10, int 1, res
1, gut 6 techs: chaos sword
Field actions: jump, push/pull, swim, and dash
Spec: hand, sword, book, wrench

Noel Chandler
The pacifist animal lover. I guess that says it all. He cares for
animals more than his own kind and hates fighting. Can use healing and
attack magic with good armor and weapons. To bad he doesn't excel in
all off them.
Starting stats: Hp 30, Mp 50, str 4, con 3, dex 5, agi 7, int 9, res
9, gut 6 techs: heal and wind blade
Field actions: Scan and jump
Spec: book..???

Bowman Jean or was it Jean Bowman?
Bowman is a pharmacist. Married, he starts to worry about his age and
is the grown-up figure of the group(although he can act immaturely
sometimes). Good at martial arts and compounding, Bowman is one of the
most powerful combo fighters.
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 20, str 8, con 7, dex 7, agi 8, int 4, res
5, gut 8 Techs: pillory
Field actions: herb picking, bomb, map, push/pull, jump, and dash
Spec: hand, sword, book, then wrench

Celine Jules
The sorceress Celine is back and as the queen if you got the secret
ending in star ocean 2. The woman loves adventure and treasure hunting.
She is a mage and very good at magic as well as item creation.
Starting stats: Hp 20, Mp 50, str 1, con 2, dex 5, agi 5, int 10, res
10, gut 6. Techs: fireball
Field actions: magic shot, teleport, bomb, map, and jump
Spec: wrench, book, feel, then sword?

Ashton Anchors
The unlucky swordsman met the group in Salva mines. Their encounter
wasn't the friendliest and two dragons now possess him. He searches the
world of a way to get rid of him without killing the dragons,
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 40, str 8, con 6, dex 5, agi, 7, int 2, res
7, gut 5 Techs: leaf slash
Field actions: fireball, bomb, map, push/pull, jump, and dash
Spec: hand, sword, book or wrench?

Chisato Madison
Chisato is the determined writer who always gets the job done. The
master of getting the scoop and photography. She is a very good at
combos and has some weird techs.
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 30, str 7, con 6, dex 3, agi 10, int 1, res
7, gut 9.
Field actions:
Leon D.S Geeste
Arrogant, cocky, and full of pride doesn't match up to Leon. The little
brat we all love has returned same as ever. Good at item creation and
magic.
Starting stats: Hp 20, Hp 60, str 2, con 1, dex 8, agi 1, int 10, res
9, gut 7 Techs: ice needle
Field actions: dungeon hint, bomb, map, jump, and dash
Spec: book, wrench, feel, then sword. 99.9%positive

Opera Vectra
The sexy high class female is my second favorite character:p Armed with
a bazooka type weapon, she will blast anything in her way. Slow at
attacking she relies on techs.
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 40, str 6, con 6, dex 6, agi 6, int 3, res
7, gut 9 techs: flame thrower.
Field actions: scan, phase shot, bomb, map, push/pull, jump, and dash
Spec: wrench, sword, book, hand

Crawd C. Kenny
I hate this guy. Dumb as a doorknob and a stereotype hero/Cloud Strife
rip-off, he doesn't deserve to in the game. No swordsman just becomes
master in an instant. He sucks at combos because he can never decide
whether to use a sword or hand. He suxs at everything else and he's
ugly. No, I am not biased.
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 20, str 9, con 7, dex 7, agi 6, int 3, res
4, gut 7 techs: phase gun
Field actions: phase gun, bomb, map, push/pull, jump, and dash
Spec: sword, hand, wrench, then book

Rena Lanford
She is a happy-go-lucky small town girl/Damsel in distress. That sums
it up. I don't hate her like Crawd, but her personality is kinda
stupid. She is very good at item creation and healing magic is a plus.
Starting stats: Hp 30, Mp 60, Str 4, con 2, dex 6, agi 3, int 8, res
9, gut 5. Techs: too many >_< to list
Field actions: revive, bomb, map, push/pull, jump, and dash.
Spec: book, feel, wrench, sword
Ernest Raviede
It's Indiana Jones. No wait, just an obsessed fan. The master of whips
and an explorer himself, Ernest is famous person(on Tetregenes). His
girlfriend is Opera. Lucky bastard.
Starting stats: Hp 50, Mp 20, str 7, con 8, dex 7, agi 7, int 5, res
1, gut 5 techs: cloud dust
Field actions: whip, room hint, bomb, pull/push, and jump.
Spec: hand, book, sword, then wrench?

Kid in the village
Somebody who needs your help.

King of Aba
A fat guy who sits on his throne and yells at you.

Fishy
Member of Aqua whom you saved.

Rival
Possibly the coolest girl in the game.

6---field actions--------------------------------------------------
Field actions are used in the field. In zelda type style they are used
to get past areas in the game. Not all characters can use them all, and
I still have something incomplete.

Basic Field Actions

Jump-
Utterly useless. If there is a gap, you can jump over it. Or just walk
around.

Push/pull-
Move blocks around. Most of the time, you will have to push the blocks
around onto switches to open doors.

Bomb-
Used to take out walls to secret passages and other places. Consumes
one bomb per use. Have somebody with this skill all the time.

Map-
Truly zelda style, this maps out your current position on world map and
areas that you've explored.

Dash-
Run at 2x the speed. Not required to beat the game, but helpful in a
tight situation.

Swim-
Automatically in use when you enter water. Allows you to swim
underwater in conjunction with underwater masks.

Character Specific Field actions

Hover-
Float magically over anything. A absolute must for beating the game and
getting all the treasures.

Winch-
Something like grapple or something. If there is a block sticking out,
you can cross gaps. Useless if you have hover.

Scan-
A targeting cursor appears and scans the enemies' stats. This will be
added to your monster dictionary.

Magic shot-
Fling a blue energy ball at the enemy. Will get the advantage of first
strike easily.

Teleport-
The ultimate field action. Go anywhere on screen. Is gotten before the
final dungeon and cannot be used in the secret dungeon.

Herb picken-
Pick up weird plants for random compounding materials!!! This is quite
useful to stock on supplies for item creation.

Fireball-
Ashtons two dragons lob a fireball at the enemy. Can burn down some
walls in Garp dungeon.

Photo taking-
A cursor will appear and Chisato will take a picture of the enemy. Not
required for anything but a master file.

Phase rifle shot-
Shoot a bolt of energy toward the enemy. Like magic shot and fireball,
but can't burn down walls.

Dungeon Hint-
Leon will note something about the dungeon. I doesn't matter if you
know Japanese or not. It's not needed.

Phase gun-
Phase gun is the same as magic shot, fireball, and phase rifle. It
doesn't burn down walls.

Revive-
Rena will revive the unit or object that was there. Can re fight
enemies for sp or solve some puzzles.

Whip movement-
Ernest will swing his whip to grapple an object. Just like winch,
except he doesn't get hover.

Room Analyisis-
Ernest will comment about the room. Like dungeon hint I never use it.
Does it have a use?
------------------------------------------------------------------

7---item creation------------------------------------------------
Item creation plays like a mini-game. The better you do the better the
reward. Usually something with low points will give you something
crappy or useless. High points will give you great items.

Art-
With the magic canvas, you can scribble all around and try not to lose
points. I really don't know how this works though.
With the clay all you have to do is stretch it and you will get tons of
points.
Uses: magic clay, magic canvas

Reproduction-
Move the camera around and try to take a picture of the object you want
to reproduce. Better item are harder to reproduce.
Use: Magic camera and film

Armor appraise
Move the staff around to make it glow. When it glows put it on the
armor before it goes out to gain points. It can upgrade or degrade
armor.
Uses: staff? Magic powder

Metal work-
With a shaver, move it around to gain points. The higher the points you
get, the better the accessory made.
Uses: mineral and diamonds

Identify-
Move the little spectacle to see what's in it. It will fill in a ?
mark every time you get the right spot. If you fill in most of them,
you will discover the hidden item.
Uses: spectacle

Cooking-
Pot- stir the ingredients around to avoid it hitting each other or
walls. Every time it hits you lose points.
Pan- move the frying pan back and forth to flip the item. The more
flips you get the better the recovery item.
Uses: pan, pot, ingredients (meat, dairy, fish, grain, and vegetables.

Alchemy-
I dunno how this works. I think you're supposed to lock in the balls or
something like that to get ores.
Uses: alchemy flask, iron

Oracle-
Try to catch little letters dropped by Tria. It's in Japanese, but it's
probably useless.

Compounding-
Grind two plants together for a potion type item. Mostly it's healing,
but there are some deadly things to create.
Uses: grinder, herbs

Machinery-
Connect the dots. When a button pops up, wield it. Every two buttons
you wield will connect. The farther they are the more points you get.
Must have to beat the game and get techs.
Uses: machine kit

Writing-
Another thing I dunno how to use. I suppose you trace the object shown.
Uses: ink pen

Wood work-
Follow the nail around and pound it with a hammer. It does this
automatically so you don't have to do it manually.

Customize-
Combine a weapon and ore together for a new one. Follow the ore around
and smack it. The more accurate you are, the more points you get.
------------------------------------------------------------------

8---Contacting me--------------------------------------------
Since I don't know Japanese very well, most of my translations are off.
If you know the exact correction or words all of your help will be
greatly appreciated. Also don't email me about where to get this game
or such things.
