"ROUND ONE" Introduction I have chosen this game because: a) This is my first FAQ and I need to start somewhere. b) No one else has written one on this game. c)This is a great game to play. The best since PUNCH-OUT, which paved the way to other terrific games such as Sony Playstation's Knockout Kings and Sega Dreamcast's Ready to Rumble. This game has the combination formula of Ring Kings and Virtua Fighter. Even though I bought this game late (Aug.'99 online) and it's out of distribution, this FAQ is made in order to show the camera shots, taunts (both not fully explain in the manual), reveal the combos and expose the hidden characters in this game. 2. "Keep your rhythm." Contents and updates 1. "ROUND ONE!" Introduction 2. "Keep your rhythm." Contents and updates 3. "Use your feet!" Camera shots 4. "You're a pushover!" Taunts 5. Since Saturn's demise, I doubt that other websites want this guide. I have given every info about game as I could find and it's time to move on. 3. "Use your feet!" Camera shots There are 12 views in the game. You can change them by tapping the L or R side buttons. Here are the descriptions the camera shots are viewing. Taunts According to the instructions, you have to press and hold down x, then press any direction on the D-pad. There are 8 taunts in a male fighter, plus 8 more when the fighter's opponent is down. There are 16 different taunts from the female fighter, both whether the opponent's up or down. That's a total of 32 taunts (more than on Street Fighters games). Here is a complete list of them, from the directions to the descriptions. Note: I also added whether the taunts are long or short. That way, you can play your game better. It would bad if your character gave a long taunt after you knock out your opponent, then get hit 3 or 4 times after he gets up at the count of 2 before you finished. You take on 30 other boxers before you fight The Champ. Along the way, you meet a trainer named Snake, who gives you some combo pointers. I found some on video game tip and tricks sites on the internet, but they were either incomplete or incorrect. Snake appears five times, on ranks 24, 19, 14, 9, & 4. The first two apply to all fighters. The next three differ depending on what boxing style your character has. Note: Executing a move differs from not only boxing style, but also whether your boxer is left or right handed. Here's the complete lowdown: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Name (all) | Description | Movement (left/right or | | both) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1)one-two punch | 2 straight jabs in a row.| B, Left+B/ B, Right+B ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2)3 hit combo | 1-2 punch plus a hook. | B+C ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Name (Detroit) | Description | Movement (left/right or | | both) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) 4 hit combo | Four straight jabs in a | Right, Left, B/ | row. | Left, Right, B ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Tiger Swing | "A hook to the body with | Up, Down, C | your weight." | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Slash Ax | A powerful straight. | Down, Up B ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Name (Oscar) | Description | Movement (left/right or | | both) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Uppercut and | Self explanatory. "The fight is heating up!" Hidden Characters This is the main easter egg! After you defeat The Champ and beat the game, You get five hidden characters. The good news is they're all welter weights, right handed, and their meter gauges are full to the max! The bad news is you can only access them in the Versus mode. Here's the complete list: Name | Description |Height| Weight | Style ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. M-091J | A white and silver male | 5'10"|147 ibs.| Peek-A-Boo | silhouette seen in the | | | | Main Menu. | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. "10 seconds. You can take him!" Advice When creating a boxer, it's important to adjust the height and weight accordingly in order to get the boxing stance that you want. Then experiment him or her in the sparring mode against five boxers with five different stances, to see if the stance works best for you. I found out that I play better using boxers that have "Oscar" and "Open", while the one that has "Detroit" gives me trouble. Also, making the biggest boxer doesn't always mean the best. I made a boxer that is 6'2" and weigh 248 pounds, the maximum height and weight. Sure, he's powerful, but he moves slower because he weighs too much, thus making him an open target. When he is facing his opponent up close, most of his head shot punches miss because his shoulder length is longer than other smaller boxers, thus he is hitting open air. When you are playing against the A.I. on the Main Event or Sparring mode, the best advice to start off is to circle your opponent a lot. Go around him (or her) the direction opposite his boxing hand (i.e. if it's right, go left. If he's a "South Paw", go right.). Continue until either you are close to him on the side or when he throws an uppercut and misses. Then strike him once or twice. You can also fake him out by stopping and going the other direction before hitting him. If you get pummel a lot, back off and circle him again. Against a real opponent, do the same as above and know your player. If you really want to fight dirty, when you knock out your opponent, you don't have to stand at the corner when they tell you. You can stand close to your fallen opponent, but not too close to get a "back away" warning. When playing against the CPU, You can wait till the count of 7, then walk towards your opponent, because he gets up at 8 and you can lay the first punch when that happens. Here is a cheap trick you can try, but be careful, it's hard to pull off. You can make your opponent get disqualify when he knocks you out. How? First, make him go close to the ropes, maybe to the corner if you can. Then try to get very close to him and let him knock you out. When you are down, the count begins, but if the opponent is close to you, the count will stop at 2 and the "back away" warning will begin. If his back is to the ropes, he will not have room to step away from you, thus he is trap there, getting a deduction, then disqualification. You can win this if it is done right, but there are 2 things to consider. This trick will not work if you get KO the third time. Two, depending on how you are knockdown, whether by straight punch or uppercut, it might send you a far distance away from your opponent, thus giving him room to move during the countdown. Although the CPU will always try to back away after a knockdown, it might not work when playing against a person, because he can just side step, then move back, away from there. If you got a Game Shark cartridge, you can use that to win. There are two codes that exists. One is "Unlimited time", in which the clock freezes. The second is called "Player Two becomes a 'chicken'". The boxer throws one punch before his power meter goes completely zero with no recovery. You can find these codes from the Game Shark Code Creators Club website only, since they are unofficial. I tried them and they work really well. But be careful, because at one time, I used the second code and the game froze during the "Tale of the Tape", before the match. And speaking of Game Shark, you can't use it's memory manager to import your boxers. Sure, it can store the memory, but you can't access it from the cartridge directly to the game like a regular back-up cartridge. After all, it was made to store and use cheat codes, first and foremost. FINAL NOTE: You can still continue to play the main event mode after defeating The Champ and finishing the game, if you want your boxer's ability gauges to be completely full. It's going to be while before it matches those of the Champ and the hidden fighters though, because you receive very little amount during training. You'll be defending your title A LOT before that happens. Instead of trying to raise all 3 abilities, it's better to raise them one at a time at each training to see some results. 8. "Knock him out!" Gratitude and closing Special thanks to: -Sega, Electronic Arts, Victor Entertainment and JVC for making this game. -Interact and GSCCC for making the cartridge and the cheat codes for the game. -The following people and websites who have posted my FAQ and it's updates: Al Amaloo at Game Advice.com Jamie Long at Games Domain.com Jeff "CJayC" Veasey at GameFAQs.com Jennifer at Fresh Baked Games.com These are the people who asked permission for this document. If you see this on any website that IS NOT listed here, please tell me. -You, the reader, for looking at this. As you can see, this game is similar to other games such as Virtua Fighter and Fighters Megamix, yet different in other aspects. I hope this FAQ convinces you buy this game (or rent, if you can). There are stores such as Funcoland that still sell them. If you have any questions, commits, or discussions to this FAQ, please don't hesitate to write to me at the address shown. Thank you and watch out for for my reviews of other games on Sega Saturn, Atari 2600, video arcade on this or other websites. In closing, I leave you with this: For people who like the Center Ring Boxing music: You can play the audio music version of the CD. Better yet, to save wear and tear, put it on a CD player that is connected to a cassette recorder. Then you can record the music tracks from the CD to the audio cassette tape. Just don't tape track 1 because it's the game load. Here's the track list: Track | Title | Time ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 02 | Fight theme 1 | 03:37 03 | Fight theme 2 | 03:33 04 | Fighting the Champ theme | 03:09 05 | "Ladies and Gentlemen...." theme | 00:08 06 | Credits theme | 01:02 07 | The championship belt theme | 00:09 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- and this: "I shall allow no man to belittle my soul by making me hate him."--Booker T.
